Abuse item restore for dual Apoc Nigh, DM, COP ear/rings?

I tried a forum search and couldn't find anything.

Has anyone tried dropping an item such as a CoP ring, getting a different one from the NPC, and then using item restore to get the original back?

I'm not saying I see a major practical application for this, but I'm sure there is someone out there who would like to have both a Suppa and another DM earring available without having to do a quest between swaps.

I'd be shocked if GMs didn't check your quest status before restoring something like that. Then again, that'd require they actually do their job so maybe ->

1) What quest status? You would have already completed the re-quest and gotten the 2nd item before restoring the original. Anyway, your main point is that the GMs should check up on you before restoring. Of course they should. Will they? That's what this thread is all about.

2) Why? Are BG accounts linked to FFXI accounts now? I claim to be Gergall of Valefor but I could have as easily signed up as Darkcliche of Fenrir.

Not the same, but an LSmate of mine dropped his anniversary ring (0/10 charges remaining). He used his item restore and the GM gave him a new one with 10 charges.

Well I'm sure some anonymous person could come in and say I've got raja's+tama's with no screenshots, but that wouldn't mean much would it. Not to mention, if anyone has actually done this, I'm sure they wouldn't want SE to come along and put some check in place to prevent it from happening/working at all, if there isn't one already.

Can you still use item restore on these, now that you can re-quest them, though? Wouldn't the GM just tell you to do that?

pretty sure they are still rare/ex and you cant hold more than 1 of them.

Neither of those two flags matter if you get two different rings/earrings.

I don't know if I still have the screenshot around, but that's what two GMs have told me.

Don't think the flag is in place but it could be the same as the emperor/empress restriction, however that is managed.

Wasn't there a thread a while back about a doucehbag getting hacked and server-jumped, and they dropped his Kikoku and allot of his gear?

Yup. Kikoku got tossed, GM restored it and all of his gear, hacked and tossed again. 2 sets of screen shots in the thread to prove it too, iirc.

GMs wont restore any of the redoable earrings/rings, regardless of flag status.

I don't see why they don't implement ways to recover most quest only items, and abjurations. It would be a simple as flagging the trade ins as repeatable, but require gil instead of the components the next time. This would be great for the victims of dropped relics, HQ abj gear and the like, plus SE would get a hard on because they'd be managing to suck even more gil out of the economy.

It is possible to have 2 of the same rare/ex item and GMs can do it. A while back when some friends in my LS were getting married, I attended the wedding and /checked the GM performing the ceremony. She had two Bastokan Rings on. I'm guessing that it's because both the bride and groom were Bastokers, but Ididn't ask.
