iPhone Ringtones

I recently made some FF ringtones for my new iPhone. Here they are, in case anyone here is interested in using them:

Victory Fanfare (FF7 OST Disc 1 Track 11)
Dash de Chocobo (FFXI RotZ OST Track 4)
First Ode: Nocturne of the Gods (FFXI CoP OST Track 6)
Whispers of the Gods (Aydeewa Subterrane music, FFXI ToAU OST Track 11)

They were pretty easy to make in iTunes:

1. Select a song in your library.
2. Specify the start and end time for your ringtone. (Right click -> Get Info -> Options -> Start/Stop Time) I think the max. length is 30 seconds.
3. Convert the selected clip to AAC. (Advanced menu -> Convert Selection to AAC)
4. Select and listen to the newly-created file to double check the clipping--sometimes the encoder is a bit off. Re-clip the song as necessary.
5. Now that you're satisfied with the AAC-encoded ringtone you've created, find it in Finder / Windows Explorer. (Right click -> Show in Finder/Explorer)
6. In iTunes, delete the ringtone from your library, but make sure you tell iTunes to keep (not delete) the file.
7. In Finder/Explorer, rename the file (make sure file extensions are being shown) from an .m4a to an .m4r.
8. Open the file. iTunes should automatically recognize it as a ringtone.

gonna try this later tonight when I get home. Thanks for the info because I hate having to first buy a song from the apple store then needing to spend another dollar to convert it into a ringtone -.-

Np. I forgot to mention that my source tracks were unrestricted MP3's. If you're working with tracks from iTMS, you might have to burn them to a CD-R(W) and rip them back off first to get around the DRM.

That's awesome, thanks for sharing this. The iTunes ringtone function really disappointed me and I haven't bothered trying to mess with it much. Definitely going to have to give this a try though.
