Help me semi-ungimp BLM for cheap

Edit for clarification: I'm asking about an account I really don't give 2 craps about but would be nice to have as a backup. I've already gotten my own plans for my Galka, but seeing as how thats a couple months down the line I'm really just trying to ungimp this account. Thanks for some ideas so far, there's quite a few I hadn't thought of yet. (IE: load the shit up on elemental skill, RSE sachet)

I'm trying to get a BLM I acquired semi-recently to 75 now that I have anniversary ring x2 to work with and sky. I just dinged 72, and I'm kind of tired of the little fella getting resisted on everything. (Yeah yeah, 75 in the sig shut it)

Here's the LOL that I'm working with:
    http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...ypu/awcrap.png

Thats a Philomath stole, and I'm 72 and have errant legs as well now. I've got Irqirua body and hands for 73.
I'm totally aware that the rings suck, the earring suck, that the back piece sucks, and the belt is enough to insight giggles and/or face palms on sight in career BLM's. (It's a druid's rope).

If your wondering: Why am I bothering with this? Well, I wanted him @ 72 for a convenient D2, and when I level BLM on my main I'm going to use him as my BLM equip mule when i'm not using the job. But I want him functional in case I get into a situation where having 2 BLM's would be better than 1, even if he is somewhat lol. Somewhat LOL is better than total chucklefest, which is what the poor bastard is now.

    So I'm thinking:
    Back: Rainbow Cape
Waist: ???(probably ququirn+1 or Immortals Sash, or both since BLM will be using galka 70 belt)
Head: AF hat, unless someone suggests somthing better
Earrings: No clue. I'm 0/12 on fuckyourmother fuckface on my main, so unless I get really, REALLY lucky in the lottery don't say moldy earring.
Ammo: Morion thatlum because my main has my phantom.
Staffs: already has the NQ ones on him.

The rest: feel free to suggest something better. It will be a bit till I gear up BLM and I haven't really looked into the job for a non-galka, so I know i'm over looking easy to get stuff for certain slots. remember: the name of the game is cheap, but I'm open to being told that i'll need something when I level it myself.

If you can't be bothered to keep trying for moldavite, don't bother with the job imo.

With that said, elemental torque, yigit feet, rainbow cape, errant slops, etc

If you're having trouble with resists, maybe it's the monsters that you're up against. As far as armor, go big or go home, Moldavite Earring is pretty much a -must- for any BLM. My advice is use up your old Anniversary Ring, and then take a break and farm up some gil to buy armor and to camp that earring.

    Moldy stuff
I am very much aware of how important that earring is, but right now the time camping it vs getting things other than thunder III scrolls has me

It will come, but after 0/12 and 30+ hours wasted you pretty much have to step back and go 'ok, is this more important than farming for everything else I need'?

you really should invest time into the job, not just money. many things that u can get for free have always been available and make your job a lot easier: moldivite earring, abyssal earring, rostrum pumps, vicious mufflers, yigit gomlek set, and af1 set. merits really make the blm as well, you're missing out on 2 spells and a lot of elemental skill and MAB if you just neglect it all.

but if u want to do it cheap i'd do this:

main: elemtental staff (get hq thunder if u can)
sub: get a grip. bugard +1 or staff strap.
ammo: get a ammo slot as well. RSE sachet is free, fenrir stone is free, phantom tathlum is cheap.
    head: af1 hat.
neck: elemental torque shouldnt be too expensive, if u cant afford that get a HMP item.
ears: get an abyssal earring, and a moldevite earring. they're free and easy to get for a blm.
body: use errant. u can use igqira, but just stick to errant.
hands: af1. dont use iqgira. stick with af1. if u wont merit or get torque, you will need hands.
rings: nq diamond rings are cheap. int+4.
    back: rainbow is cheap.
waist: just wear a hierarch belt cuz you probably wont buy a penitent's.
    legs: errant
    feet: rostrum or yigit.

your lvl 70-75 spells should cost more than how much this gear will cost you. and yes buy ur tier 3 spells too. ask yourself what you're gonna use this blm for. its very hard to 2 box if you dont know how. if you're just gonna be 2 boxing while soloing you're gonna need even better gear than what i have listed because you're gonna need survivability. if you're in a huge alliance of whatevers fighting XYZ nm, you can gimp it up because you have 17 other ppl to pick up your slack.

if and if your blm has to chance to finish cop mission, probably get tamas ring then.

af1 hand is way too better until you done half of your elemental skill merit so that you will get less resist on your spell.

0/12? Sorry to hear that. =/ I'm 1/1 personally, and I know many people are 1/1 as well, didn't think it could be as bad as that! But yes the -basics- are Errants, Yigit possibly, and Igqira.

Also! Get Vicious Mufflers until you obtain Z.mitts, they're an amazing substitute, and quite easy to obtain!

I'm pretty sure you know what you need to get but you have to decide what you're going to spend your gil on basically. Start saving because if you want to use your Blm for most HNMs minimum you'll want is HQ Ice and Thunder staves. Any job you'll have to spend gil and a lot of time (merits and R/EX gear) to preform well it's just a reality of this game.

Re: Help me semi-ungimp BLM for cheap

Depends on your definition of cheap, but:

    Bugard Leather Strap +1
    Phantom tathlum/RSE satchet
    AF head
    Ele torque/Philo is ok
    Phantom Earring (or morion)/Moldy (free!)
    Errant Body @72, Weskit @73
Errant hands, Igqira hands, Vicious Mufflers are all good and cheap. Yigit hands are free but lots of assault
Diamond rings (or at the very least, zircon, no mp rings please)
    Rainbow cape
If you're not gettin pen rope, could probably just stick to hierarch or something. I can't think of anything else all that great.
    Errant legs
Yigit feet, rostrums, af2 feet can all be free with some effort and luck. AF feet suck but there's not a lot else that's cheap and useful. Mountain gaiters are too much for what they do.

    Main
    NQ Staves
    Kirin's Pole

    Sub
    Bugard Leather Strap +1

    Ammo
    Morion Tathlum

    Head
    Wizard's Petasos
    Igqira Tiara

    Neck
    Philomath Stole
    Elemental Torque
    Beak Necklace

    Earring
Moldavite (God damn, can't stress this enough)
    Phantom Earring

    Body
    Igqira Weskit
    Wizard's Coat
    Errant Houppelande

    Hands
    Wizard's Gloves
    Vicious Mufflers
    Devotee's Mitts

    Rings
    Diamond Ring x2

    Back
    Rainbow Cape

    Waist
Desert Stone (Said it was a Galka iirc)
    Hierarch Belt

    Legs
    Errant Slops

    Feet
    Yigit Crackows
    Errant Pigaches

That would be a very basic set up, while not so great anything, it'll get the job done. Nuking would be ok damage, stoneskin wouldn't be capped, but it would be a start. Eh on the enfeebling skill.

Made a couple small changes and alternate ideas (in red)..

That should be enough to get by until he can jump into a dynamis, sky or sea/limbus group to get some upgrades into r/ex stuff.

gtfo with demon helm, he said he wants to ungimp that character.

No but seriously, Wizard's Petasos is so much more useful, it's free, has +mp and -enmity. I'd strongly advise against a demon helm, far better to keep that inventory slot free.

That's why I left out Phantom Tathlum because obviously that would be better. I didn't include Demon Helm because he said he was just using it as a second BLM in a case where having two would be better, wasn't so sure if he wanted to get all situational macros with having extra bits of INT for situational uses, but yeah, Demon Helm would be better after his initial spell. Forgot about Wizard's Tonban completely, thanks~

How about some free stuff, aka cap your elemental merits if you ever wanna be worth a crap.

8/8 elemental merits, elemental torque, nq weskit, and af1 hands nuking ice, you should be ok in pretty much all scenarios.

This may be the most important suggestion in the entire thread. Every blm knows that a gimped spell that lands unresisted is far more effective than a fully maxed spell that is resisted. If you want a reasonably effective blm on the super cheap, the only thing you need is to be able to land your nukes. 8 elemental merits will pretty much assure that on anything other than HNMs, and af1 gloves will make it a shoe-in. That's all 100% free, and the meriting will in fact get you some profit (if you don't just drop everything), nevermind a shit-ton of IS which can be turned into a bunch of stuff. Speaking of IS, get 32k (I think?) and get yourself a staff strap for free. In any case, every other piece people said (including the all-popular moldy) isn't going to make as much a difference between landing unresisted and landing resisted as maxing skill merits .

If you finish this route and want to continue the upgrading process, the next thing I might do is actually work on full yigit. Again, 100% free (with random profit from selling ether tanks and such), one of the best feet you can have, an exceptional set for hmp, and depending on how much upgrading you may have done on the side, all together may be a better nuking set than the piecemeal set you're currently quoting.

Above and beyond this, it's really just a matter of maximization, at least when it comes to damage. Moldy, zenith, sorc ring, morrigans, etc etc are all incremental upgrades (some better than others) but in terms of simply making a passable blm they aren't stricktly required (just be ready to remind people many times that pimping your blm is Not your priority). Remember 2 things-First, an intelligently played gimp blm is almost always more useful and effective than a leroy jenkins pimped out blm, so learn the job. Second, when you learn the job, work on more than just your pure damage. An effective blm is one that maximizes pure damage, damage on high resist mobs (i.e. elemental skill gear sets), spams drain/aspir as much as possible and stun when appropriate (i.e. dark skill gear sets), binds/gravities/sleeps/dots mobs when tactically appropriate (i.e. enfeebling skill gear sets), and can take a few shots and keep on going (imo) (i.e. stoneskin capping gear sets). Beyond that you get into the world of haste sets for recast reduction and yellow swapping macros, which is waaaaaaaay further down the rabbit hole than you seem to care to go (at least with this character). It all depends on what you want to do with this character, and the more you play with blm the more you'll realize that a balanced, intelligent approach is more important than camping mysticmaker for hour 137 (as you've already found out).

If he ends up casting in Errant, the -enmity on Wizard's Petasos willl outweigh the minimal INT loss in many group situations.
