PS2 connecting to PoL

Well, my problem first started when I began playing FFXI on PC. Before playing on PC my ps2 would always connect to PoL no problem, but then I played on pc for a month or so and then decided to switch back to PS2. For some reason, nearly everyday it is a fucking hassle to get online.. it can take up to 20+ minutes of trying to get online, getting such errors as POL-1040 .. It will begin connecting and won't get past "Connecting via ethernet". Sometimes it will get past that, and get to retrieving friends list, but it won't retrieve the list and it'll time out, forcing me off POL. Is there anyway to fix this? I've tried file checking POL and nothing seems to be wrong. Any ideas or suggestions? Please help

update: I now get authentication errors such as POL-1558 "An authentication error has occurred"

Also, I use comcast but again I can connect on PC no problem.

I get 1033 on ps2 for up to 2hours, I am on bell/sympatico and never had this problem until as of late.

Are you using a router or plugged directly into the modem?

I had this problem when I used my old PS2 HDD that had XI on it on a different PS2 than the one I installed it on. The solution was to format my HDD and reinstall XI on it in the new PS2.

If you didn't change PS2s then... I have no idea.

I'm on router. It never did this before until I started playing on PC. I did however change from one ps2 to another, but even then I had reformatted it because it won't let you boot the HDD without reformatting it.
