    Video Making

I figured this would be a decent place to ask this.

How do you guys make your videos of matches and such? It doesn't look like you're just setting a cam corder in front of the screen. Is there some kind of recording machine for console games? I've been wanting to find something like this.

We use a pinnacle DVR card with a signal splitter between the TV and a PC, record it in mpeg 2 then store it all on a 150 gig external firewire drive. We use isquint to keep it in widescreen format and Imovie to put them together/upload them directly. The next video we'll be using final cut pro to actually get some nice editing in besides transitions.

Took a while to get the quality up there and figure out formatting though, the difference between the first scene and the rest in this is staggering.

No shit, try a splitter. Also, if the video is recorded already because it was short enough to put on your SD card, you can always replay it and just route it directly to a capture card on your PC.

I bought a capture card back in 2003 when I was going hardcore with Melee for a while, the only problem was if I wanted to play directly through it, the card had like a .8s~ lag that was pretty annoying, so I picked up a VCR and recorded on there and then replayed it to computer.

There's tons of setups you can use, but all of it is going to involve almost always some kind of capture card or USB device for capturing video/audio(if you want).

I much prefer though, videos that people did with Melee that were actual just video taken of gameplay, with all the noise of the controllers and people and everything. Captures a lot more of the feel, and you DO learn things from hearing the sound of the controllers.
