Why the hell do you always produce so much more saliva after drinking apple/grape/orange juice?
Why the hell do you always produce so much more saliva after drinking apple/grape/orange juice?
Because they are so fucking good that your mouth is watering for more.
Um<_< no? lol Full of sugar and what not. Do they even have high fructose corn syrup? Pretty sure they do, everything does in this era. Be right back checking labels~
Edit: No, none of the ones I have have that in them, guess it's just candy and all that shit that's horrible for you. I doubt this stuff can be too healthy if you drink it religiously (like pretty much anything but water, sadly).
It is the sugar, for sure. Just like drinking an entire can of soda won't quench your thirst.
Oh yeah and slow down on the OJ unless you brush your teeth religiously. It eats the enamel on your teeth.
Are we talking about juice or 'drank' here?
What's "drank"?
the powder shit

Sweet tastes trigger the release of Amylase, an enzyme found in saliva that breaks down starches into more simple sugars. It is the first stage of chemical digestion. The sweeter the food, the more of this enzyme the body feels the need to release. The more simple the sugars, the sweeter the taste. It follows, that since fruit juice is full of simple sugars, and sweet to the taste, the mouth will salivate.
interesting aside: this is the reason why soda crackers will taste sweet if you chew on one long enough. The amylase starts to break down some of the starches into more simple sugars, which when abundant enough will taste sweeter.

I thought fruit juice was good for you, antioxidants and shit. Aren't they mostly water anyway, mostly?
Good for you in small amounts, like maybe one glass a day, maybe. It's mostly just sugar though. Less so than fruit "drank", but it's quite a lot of sugar. I think it is usually suggested that one should just eat the fruit itself instead of taking fruit juice.
If really good fruit wasn't so god-damned expensive these days I'd agree for sure, but fuck, sign me up for diabetes, it's cheaper.Originally Posted by Kuya
There is a big difference between fruit juice and the shit you buy in stores. A lot of times, say apple juice for example, will have "Sweetened" and "UnSweetened" versions. Cranberry juice is usually "Cranberry Juice Cocktail"... It is mostly a matter of finding the shit that isn't loaded down with sugars. And yeah, eating the real fruit is just as good.
A cheap alternative to buying the real fruit - buy it frozen. Thaw it out. Hello fruit.
sugar, water, and purple.
fuck yea
Your body also regulates the pH in your mouth to stay around a certain range. I'm no Biology major but this might have something to do with the production of saliva after drinking the juice. Fruit juices are full of citric acid, which lower the pH in your mouth when you drink them.

Mini supermarket near me gets a new shipment seemingly every other day and it gets cleared out within hours. I can drink an entire carton in an hour or so and I fucking hate fruits.
I don't know what it is, but I have never cared for fruit punch of any sort... I can drink Mango Raspberry Banana Strawberry juice, but never fruit juice. Haha.
