It's pretty much FF Tactics on your iPod with a really awful story. It's only $5, so really not that bad if you're just looking for something quick or just want to try it out. Graphics are really nice, music is eeeh, and it looks exactly like what you'd expect from an SE game.

Pros:
Controls for a tactical RPG work really well with the click wheel.
Game is well put together.
Good balance between the isometric battlefield graphics, which are relatively weak and the higher res character portrait graphics, probably this is due to space constraints? I've no experience with iPod game development but it wouldn't surprise me if there were limits on how large your game can be.
Interesting method of unit creation.
Amusing unit names/picture.

Cons:
Sucks your iPod battery like there's no tomorrow.
If you have a huge music library you can get overwhelmed in character creation.
Dialogue and story is a whole new level of cliche/awful.
Your favorite songs seem to never give you badass troops.

Overall:
If you like tactical style RPGs you'll probably forgive the story just for another hit. Though with the direction SE has been going with dumbed down and stupid storylines in their tactical RPGs we will probably never see another good one. Like FFX-2, this is another enjoy the gameplay and forget the story game.

Got this yesterday, and played like all of two fights.

The wheel controls are a little odd. Maybe its just me, but I often find myself either unable to scroll through options or scrolling way too fast. I'll probably get used to it after a while.

The use function is kinda lame, although maybe there will be enough of the items that let you use characters more. As it is, each trooper you create can only fight in a certain amount of battles. The higher rank they are, the less you can use them. Which seems odd, as you can put resources into making troops better, but then you'll eventually not be able to use the guys you put so much time and effort into.

Also all my favorite songs make shitty units.
