Gas hasn't changed in value since 1950s

Gas was roughly .25c in 1950s
Ounce of silver was .97c in 1950s

Today gas is roughly $4.50 per gallon
Today Ounce of silver is roughly $18

So an ounce of silver could get you about 4 gallons of gas.

Ironically, in today's times. An ounce of silver, could get you roughly the same amount of gas as in 1950s.

Go ahead, check out the numbers. You know you want to.

Conclusion:Silver is a good measure of inflation, and gas prices haven't changed, in fact, gas prices have dropped dramatically if you factor in higher demand for it.

You should probably state why silver is a good measure of inflation instead of just putting it in the conclusion that it is.

Anyhow, so now we just need to figure out how to make silver prices drop. Hmmm...

I think you are missing a very obvious point here.

well since inflation affects goods across the board, not just silver and gas, you are pretty much sol. Perhaps you should write the fed and ask them to stop printing money because it's killing you.

Definitely interesting numbers though. Nice post, thanks.

I shall impress people with my knowledge of the market at Happy Hour or a party this weekend.

Gonna have to do a little more looking into this to prepare.

I hope that was more a suggestion to him than a question about why~

You're dumb. First off, the value of silver does not give you an exact representation of inflation, as there are about a billion variables affecting it.

Here's a pretty little graph showing that if you actually use real inflation values rather than finding something that "is a pretty good indicator of inflation," it has in fact gone way down and then way back up since then.

Secondly, who cares about since 1950? Here's what people are actually concerned about:

They were talking about this and such on the radio the other day, about how we focus on gas so much because we buy in large quantities at a time. Like if we were buying 10-15 gallons of milk at a time, we would probably be pretty upset at the rising cost of that as well. (Personally already feel the hurt on milk as I drink a gallon or so a day) ... of course that begs the question of isn't the price of food and other things rising because of the increase in gas prices?

Gas prices have doubled in the past few years and my pay rate has not. That's what hurts.

Even if it were true it's completely irrelevant information aimed at making people upset that they have no claim to complaining about high gas prices instead of encompassing the actual problem, which is that the price of living has changed dramatically.

I'm a freaking milk addict, I spend more on milk than on gas, this $4 a gallon crap when there's 50 cows across the street from me is annoying as hell.

The problem is the politicians mislead people on what is really happening.

They are talking about offshore drilling and taxing gas companies and all the other crap that spews out of their demonic mouths, not the central issue. Which is the fed, and printing money, which causes inflation.

In other words, "oh shit I didn't do any actual research I was just regurgitating some bullshit I heard someone I believe say, since it was wrong it's time to change the subject asap."

No Plow. I just thought If I ignore stupid replies they would go away.

Since I was obviously wrong, could you please tell me which inflation source is that chart going by so I can proper dispute your findings? Because "official" sources say inflation is at steady 3-4%, which is hotly disputed.

Try the source that's printed on the freaking graph?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize "you're wrong, here's evidence disproving your hearsay" was what qualified as "stupid replies" these days.

Your evidence is from 2007 and most likely uses misleading inflation measures. Besides, what exactly am I wrong about? Can you explain that at least?

The American mass media, aka a sensationalist momentum conglomerate which has thrown away all journalistic values in favor of ratings and fanatic bipartisan slants to support their various funders and cable network pyramid owners, isn't focusing on the real issues? Say it ain't so.

But honestly, the people who aren't smart enough to find out that you don't believe everything Fox or CNN tells you or tries to get you heated about are not the type of people you want to have an intellectual debate with. And alternatley, many of us are smart enough to know that your thread is provoking the sentiments of a community with a fact that may or may not be true but doesn't actual even equate to what they are angry about; Just that the wording implies that it might.
