Saw V

I dont recall a thread about it, and cant search for it because it's too short, but yeah, went to the 10hr Saw I-V showing today for $15 and got some free swag to boot.

I knew there are a few Saw fans here, and wanted to see others impressions on it. Like with Saw III and IV, it takes more of a psychological aspect to it, rather than just here's a bunch of brutal deaths, and explains a lot of the back story and reveals a lot of secrets.

The Saw series can kind of be compared to Prison Break now, and the way it's going, it doesnt really need to continue, but it does because theres so much you can do with it, and it just gets you with all the twists and turns.

Saw V went way into actual story and plot, rather than tests (there were some though), and closes up a lot of loose ends, in fact im pretty sure all loose ends were cleared up. Of course it was known that there would be atleast six Saws when Saw II came out, so there is a bit of a huh, I wonder whats next factor to it, such as whats in the box? who wrote that note? and whats his next move?

However for me, there is still one III, IV and V connection that im not sure about, and thats

I liked the first one, despite how gross it was at times, but didn't even make it through the second. Just too gross & disturbing to even enjoy it, found myself asking why i was watching it & decided to stop.

I was stunned that the series kept making sequals, and shocked it made it to #5.

It seems like they just made it from #1-#5 yesterday, but in a awkwardly good way.

Although they definitely seemed to have gone downhill, I honestly enjoy watching them.

I think V was meh at best. Maybe I missed something, but it seemed like two movies going on at once. Strahm vs Hoffman okay, but what was with the random flashes to those 5 people? And none of them survived? Usually theres some good things like how people were killed, but nothing was really "omg awesome!" about most of the traps. Pendulum, meh. Water filling to drown someone? Really?

Saw 3, he is dying, and dies at the end, and the tests where happening in real time, jeff comes in as his wife is shot, kills amanda and then jigsaw. This is where I get confused. I think Saw 4 starts off with the ending, because the FBI guy gets locked inside the room where jigsaw is dead at the end of 4. So the beginning of 4 is really the end with hoffman listening to the tape. This tape is directing him to set up the 5 person test in V. And the rest plays out like it is.

I thought Saw I was a lot better than people I talk to seem to think it is, the ending was a total mindfuck for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the film. Do people just not like it anymore because 3-5 were such shit?

I dont see why people dont like 3-5, I think because people were always just expecting mindless brutal killings, but 3-5 go more psychological, and focus on an actual story.

3 pissed me off because people died (the chick and black guy) because of some fucking guy who couldn't get over a grudge. Cool part about one was that the people in the traps had a chance to escape themselves and were there because they fucked up.

I haven't seen it in a while (since opening day in theatres) but that's what I remember feeling as it ended and it just pissed me off.

I disliked 3 and 4 because there was no real twist in them, which I had come to expect after 1 and 2's ending. Not going to spoiler tag it because it's silly, but that dramatic reveal that they have at the end of every movie where they flashback to what Jigsaw or other people said, composite it with images that culminates in some wtfmoment...was completely retarded in 3. "JK I wasn't talking to the doctor, I was talking to Amanda" is not a twist, it's a series of miscommunications (that weren't all that gasp-worthy to begin with). 4 was too hastily thrown together for me to care much by the end. I dunno, they're okay to watch if I feel like cringing but story was not 3-5's strong point, and considering story was their main focus I'd say that's pretty sad.

The first Saw was moderately entertaining, the rest of the movies are a continual downward spiral of crap. I have absolutely 0 desire to watch this movie as I already know it's going to be a huge steaming turd.

The fact they feel obligated to throw out a new movie every year just goes to show how little they care for actually taking the time to make a good product. If they have the slightest respect for their product (lol @ that), they would have stopped at 3, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see another one next year.

Considering they announced that there would be up to atleast Saw VI when I was released, it's not a surprise.

To me it seemed like they're trying to fill plot holes that don't necessarily need to be filled. It was decent in terms of Saw movies, but just seems like they're milking it, which they are. At the end of the last movie we knew that one cop was helping Jigsaw, what's seriously the point of finding out why or how he helped. However, the ending of V does make me curious to see the next one, since all the flashback bullshit should be done now.
