    Hard drive fried?

Ok.... bought a new case, and was swapping everything into it.

Now when I power on the PC, the primary hard drive now just clicks every 3 seconds and its not picked up in the Bios at all. Checked the cables with another HDD, and both are working just fine.

Is this HDD done, or something else I should check?

    Clicking HDD = failure.

Just to check, you are using a SATA HDD?

If so, make sure you have power to just the SATA OR the Molex 4-pin, not both.

Ya, its a western digital 160 gb.... about 4 years old.

I tried using the SATA connection, tried using the Molex connection with same results.

Now time, to boot up the 500gb I bought a few weeks ago lol

Normally any HD issues I'd recommend SpinRite, sometimes its been able to help clicking drives, but if you can't see it in BIOS thats always a sign of death. Might be worth a go though.

It's possible that it's the board, I've had a clicking HDD before where I tested it in another machine and it was fine.

grab www.ultimatebootcd.com and burn the iso. Boot from it and run the hardware diagnostics.

i'll run it anyways, but I re-installed vista on my 500gb hard drive with no problems....so probably not the board.

Yeah, broken HDD is almost always correct, but it's worth testing rather than tossing the drive automatically.
