so i picked up the 2008 vana pack and am currently installing the updates

i've always started in sandy in the past but ive heard bastok is slightly better to start for early exp but im not sure

just been bored havent been gaming much lately so wanted to pick this back up again, i know im in for a lot with all the exp packs and missions etc but im in no real rush to make it far

any pointers or suggestions??

Every city has their pros and cons. I don't think any city has edge over others in terms of lowbie XP, levels 1-10 are done in couple of hours anyway. As soon as you have enough Conquest points run back into town and pick up one of the XP bonus bands.

Actually, Dangruf Wadi is pretty good xp up to 20 if you don't wanna deal with the dunes. Not a bad spot to farm low level either, and it's not like there's ever anyone in that zone.

Fun thing is, each area does have it's nice spots.

Windurst's got the "Crab tower", with goblins and crabs to rampage through outside and Cardians inside, the "Giddeus tower" which is not only a ton of goblins and bats inside, but a few easily pulled higher level goblins you can do through the teens.

Once you're done with that, there's chunks of the Ruins that can take you all the way into the high 20's if you wanted, though most folks will head for the Maze Makers for a few levels off of Tahrongi.

Bastok's good going Zerhun Mines -> Fumaroles -> Dangruf Wadi. As noted few people know it's in there, but it's a thousand times better than Valkrum's lizards for the early teen levels.

Sandy's got it worst, though it's a logical progression going Ronfaure -> KRT. Orcs just aren't as squishy as most mobs at their level.

Also, there's Emperor/Empress/Chariot Bands (I go with Emperor, personally) to give you an xp bonus buff.

Are you sure? I thought each nation had a moogle that gives anniversary rings to people who weren't around for the appreciation campaigns. I know there's a moogle by the mog house in Port Bastok that always gave me that impression, at least.

They did but I'm almost positive they're not giving rings out anymore and even then they'd only give the ring to you if your character had been in existence prior to the original Adventurer Appreciation event. New characters created after event weren't eligible.
