PSP Custom Firmware on a slim

So, I'm finally "upgrading" my phat PSP to a slim one since I'm getting a good deal out of it and I was wondering how the CF scene is on the slim now. I remember when they first came out it was impossible to run 1.0 and 1.5 kernal programs on it but it was possible to downgrade with a pandora battery. Has anything changed?

You can run 1.5 but you have to use time machine. It's useful if you plan to run emulators. As far as the downgrading goes, still the same. That being said, are you aware Sony will introduce the PSP3000 series? It has a much better screen, anti-glare, and a built in microphone. Will it allow one to run CFW on it? I don't know.

I'm only tossing my Phat PSP because I'm getting one of the red slims for free. Knowing how pissed off Sony has been with the homebrew scene I'm sure they're going to be cracking down hardcore with the 3000 series(as much as I'd like to wait and see). I can't turn down straight up swapping out my old PSP for a slim even though I want to wait for the 3000 series and pray that homebrew works on it.

What do you mean about time machine? Is that a new homebrew app? I haven't followed the PSP homebrew scene since I got tired of waiting on DA to release a new version of CFW and updated so I could use my PSP with remote play on my PS3(which was the worst thing I've ever done in my life since I can't downgrade without a pandora).

Pandora mod your battery. It's simple and easy, I'll link to a decent guide on it.

it's been said to have less battery life too, but I think that's a far trade off. regardless, i'll be keeping my regular slim lol

Yeah, I doubt I'll upgrade. The comparison pictures look fishy at best.

I tried to do that with my old phat battery and apparently fucked it up. I removed the solder post like the guide I read told me but I could never get it to work.

A friend of mine said he'll downgrade it for me(for $10, fucker >_>) which I'll probably do just so I don't have to dick around with cracking open another battery.

^Eh, I do it for 20 bucks <_< About time machine, it basically runs from your memory stick + a pandora, so if you plan to use kernel 1.50 or any emulator that only runs on 1.50, you NEED a pandora or a datel tool.

I could do it myself I just don't want to fuck up another battery. I followed the directions online to a T and it didn't work on the battery.

So if I want to use Time Machine I'll need to have a pandora in 100% of the time? I'm not sure I understand, sorry. xD

Put your pandora in your PSP and connect the charger. If you see it charging but can't use it as a regular battery, then it's a pandora and just got discharged due to ground; else you fucked it up. Btw, a pandora battery won't charge, it stops charging after a minute or so.

Yes, you need a pandora/datel tool to run time machine all the time i.e. some emulators.

On a slim psp you don't mess with any solders, you use the exacto to scratch out a connection. The great part about slims is that you can retrace the cut part with a lead pencil to reestablish the connection, and it's magically a regular battery again. Theoretically, you should be able to resolder a phat battery as well, if you have the equipment and skills to do so.

    Emulation and homebrew applications.

For now I've decided to hold off on upgrading to a slim because I'd rather not mess with the headache of running Time Machine. Since the slim really has no improved features other than being a different color and smaller it's not worth making homebrew a pain in the ass.

    Thanks for the answers guys!
