Mog House Interior Decorating...

Now that the mog houses have been opened to visitors, myself and many of my friends have spent a decent amount of time pondering our decorating options. Furnishings in FFXI can be crafted, quested, bought, or even fished (or dug) up, and figuring out exactly what furniture you yourself are able to obtain can be confusing. Many sites list most of the furnishings but not all, and the furnishings they do list are often organized alphabetically or by different skills or costs but without any intention of organizing with decorating in mind. I've therefore spent an absurd amount of time putting together seven charts of furnishings (all furnishings, crafted, quested, purchased, guild-purchased, event-related, and miscellaneous) organized by difficulty and/or price. That way, if a player wants to decorate their mog house and their highest crafting skill is level 37, they can start at level 37 on the crafting list and work their way down to see what they can make (or what their friend can make if they know their skill levels). If a player has only 23,000 gil they can look at the purchased furnishing list from that amount down and see everything they can afford, all in one place. Obviously this is still a work in progress and I still need to scour a few more sites for furnishings that I haven't included yet, but this is my first draft and I thought it might be useful for some other people out there.

I've also started compiling furnishing screenshots but my list is likely to be pretty scarce for a while as my own in-game resources are very limited. Just for the fun of it I've posted up layouts of all three mog houses (Bastokan, San d'Orian, and Windurstian) too.

The reason I'm posting *here* specifically (the only other place I've posted is Allakhazam) is that frequently in my online searches your crafting forum came up as the only place to find some of the more obscure recipes. Obviously you have some serious furnishing crafters here and I'd like to think that some of them are in it for the decorating fun and might be willing to contribute the odd screenshot here and there (or maybe just benefit from the listings, although I doubt I have anything there that you guys don't already know). Anyway, you guys seemed to be the most furnishing-friendly crafting forum around, so I figured I'd give it a shot and see what you think...

EDIT: Was also thinking of adding an active crafter listing so that players seeking crafted furnishings could look for available crafters on their server? Do you think this would be of benefit?

Haha, sorry, that's my character in the fishing outfit I wish I had (that special event clam-digging bikini thing). I didn't want to put the page up with no graphics and it's all I had handy... I'm sure I can draw something more mog-house-ish later. =P

Just recently I was thinking about how cool it would be to have a Flash app where you could drag/drop furniture around in an overhead view and be presented with a picture of what it would really look like in-game. Or if one of the model viewers had a MH mode that I didn't know about... I dunno.

It's hard to know if I really wanna go through the effort of getting that Blue Pitcher or if I should just be patient and camp the AH... I don't even know if it'd look nice in my MH!

Exactly! That's part of what I'm trying to work on... deciding what would look good and then helping people figure out the best way to get it (or whether they even can). I don't have the skills to make a Flash application for it, but I'm hoping the layout information for each furnishing (combined with the screenshots and mog house layouts) will be a good start. My top priority right now is a full set of screenshots. For example, the blue pitcher I could only find at GoblinClub:

Sadly (for me) GoblinClub is all in Japanese and there are limits to AltaVista's babelfish. I'm certainly not about to start filching screenshots from other sites, so I'm just trying to get the word out amongst my friends and a couple of online communities and hopefully in time every piece will be tracked down (I've managed to add five more screenshots since my original post, even).

Hey, your sig gave me an idea... a character in a woodworking apron would be better, right? =P

Does anyone have a close-up screenshot or something higher-res than what's normally available of that? I'd be drawing it from scratch, but it takes me so much less time (and will be more recognizable) if I have a good screenshot of the apron to start with. I tried, actually, to screenshot one in-game just now... but the woodworker ran away. *chuckle*

Something you should do with your pictures, is when taking them, make sure its just that piece and no other furniture :D I can take some pics of Elemental Lamps if you wish, ill get them probably by tomorrow for you

That would rock my world (yes, my world is tiny, heh). The chances of me being able to make elemental lamps anytime in the future are pretty much nil. You can email them to Avalane@FFXIMogHouse if that's convenient, and make sure to let me know how you'd like to be credited for them. If you also send a screenshot of your character I could make a little icon to go in the corner (see the red or green hobby bo screenshots for an example). And I am trying to not get other furniture in the screenshot when I can, or at least if it's not obvious which piece it is (if it's a screenshot of a flowerpot I *hope* the person browsing doesn't think it's the table underneath). When I'm running through other people's mog houses, though, screenshotting what I can while they're waiting to adventure, I just shoot and run. =P

I've updated the screenshots and *hopefully* less creepified the front page illustration (or at least made it more furnishing-appropriate, heh). I'm really glad that this is the forum I posted in about this... I *knew* you guys would come up with better suggestions than anywhere else.

EDIT: Also, in case you were wondering, I *am* obsessive-compulsive about square images. It's not my fault. =P

EDIT AGAIN: Now that I've had some caffeine, *so* jealous of your furniture, heh. On a more related note, I'd forgotten that I meant to use 6" images so I've resized most of them. I added in your more recent shots (or exchanged them) and also added an update note at the bottom of the front page to keep track of how many furnishings I have listed and how many of those I have screenshots for. I'll probably link a "needed screenshot" list underneath that at some point to make it easier for people to glance over it and see if they have something I don't have on record yet.
