The UN global warming conference currently underway in Poland is about to face a serious challenge from over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe who are criticizing the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore. Set for release this week, a newly updated U.S. Senate Minority Report features the dissenting voices of over 650 international scientists, many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN. The report has added about 250 scientists (and growing) in 2008 to the over 400 scientists who spoke out in 2007. The over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.

First, that page is formatted horrifically. It looks like MySpace. (And it's a .gov address? Fail.) Second, until they actually publish peer-review data analyses in reputable journals, it doesn't matter what they assert.

1) Comparing the number of authors on papers? Is that supposed to prove something besides that the author of the article is a fucking retard?
2) 650 scientists? Wow, that'd be impressive if there weren't hundreds of thousands of "scientists" (anyone with a Bachelor of Science degree or better in any field) in the US alone.
3) Most of them are railing against Al Gore and the IPCC for overhyping, which any sane person can see and a lot of us actually agree with. He's a fucking nutjob publicity whore, he shouldn't have won the Nobel Prize, and he makes real environmentalists look bad.
4) Look up "skeptical" in the dictionary. Any thinking person should be "skeptical" of new scientific theories, and that certainly includes global warming. That isn't the same as the dogmatic disbelief that a lot of its opponents push.

I thought the whole "Global Warming" data was proven to be incorrect, as the NASA satellites that the global warming experts based their warming trends on were shown to be miscalibrated or some nonesense, and the majority of the 10 warmest years did not happen in the last two decades as was previously believed.

the paper they cite that they claim states up to "50% of global warming is caused by the sun" dosen't quite state that at all. In fact, it states that until 1850 the sun was the primary driver of climate (duh!) and after that it becomes less reliable. They state that UP TO 50% of gw COULD be caused by the sun by their model.

observed global warming in the last 100 years can be explained by the Sun.

It's a fact that nobody can accurately predict how warm it will be 100 years from now, 10 years from now, or even as little as a year from now. Nobody actually knows. Nobody knows because people know effectively jack shit about how precisely the environment works and interacts.

To give an analogy, a lot of people know that only 1/9th of an iceberg sticks above the water. The iceberg is like what we know of the environment, except we think that the stuff floating above the water is the entire thing, and we also admit that we know very little about the floating part.

Another is that the environment is a lot like a desktop computer, and current scientific knowledge about the environment is what your average middle school child knows about precisely how the hardware interacts in order to produce what we see. The middle school child may know that hitting the keys on the keyboard displays the keys in a text file, but he has no fucking clue how, exactly, it actually does that.

"Global Warming" is indeed occurring. Temperatures are increasing, that's pretty much an established fact. The argument is over the cause. "Environmentalists" like Al Gore are spewing bulsh with little or no actual respectable scientific backing as the new gospel, and claiming that "Global Warming" is the new apocalypse.

Let's put this into some perspective. In another General thread, someone thought that the risk of a vaccine causing autism, even though the actual case study which showed this was shown to be a piece of shit, made it so vaccinating someone was not worth the risk. That person was laughed at by many, who stated the harm of not vaccinating far outweighed the possible risk of developing autism.

That's a lot like the Global Warming issue. Environmentalist and other jerks want us to stop our factories producing our goods, stop driving cars and crippling our transportation, etc.. Why? Because they think that some studies done by people who admit that neither they, nor anyone else really accurately knows how or why the Earth is warming, but it looks like it MIGHT be whatever with some 300%+ margin of error. The detrimental effects to the economy and human progress outweigh the possible harm, to an almost laughable degree.
