Homebrew/free games on DS

What is the absolute fastest and best way to do this? An N4 or R4 card? Are they available in a store or online only?

How do you get the games onto the memory card? Is there a program or adapter you need? Is there any way to do it via USB like with the psp? How much of an investment am I looking at, and I'm assuming it's totally worth it right?

I'm sick of only playing like, pokemon on my DS. I'm sick of going to the store for a game and it not being there. I hate buying a game and finding out that its aweful. I much rather do this and later on purchase the game after discovering I want it.

There are a couple emulators out, but their performance is pretty sluggish. I use it for like 2 games and to demo others that I plan on buying.

Does anyone know of any good homebrew games for the R4/DS? I remember I found a list of a whole bunch of them a long time ago, but pretty much all of them were either unfinished, buggy, incredibly simple, or crap.

well yeah, but I was recommending the r4ds as very easy to use and well supported, of course there are other options
