There are more interesting Zeppelin guitar songs anyway.
A lot of stuff by Coheed and Cambria seems it would be fun (I don't play though so idk), plus they have the books for em at Barnes and Noble (or did at one point)
I've been playing guitar for several years so.. what kind of music do you like? Then we can take song suggestions from there.
Been playing Wish You Were Here a lot recently. I'd try that out. Are you looking for specific areas of music? Electric/Acoustic?
Yes, preferably electric from clean to heavy disto as long as it's FUN TO PLAY
To give some exemples of what i'm playing these days:
-Metallica
-Eric Johnson
-As I Lay Dying
-Thrice
-Avenged Sevenfold
-Billy Talent
-Santana
-Flyleaf
-Paramore
-Ozma
Thank you for the replies so far btw, always fun discovering music.
This'll take you until you're dead to master:
YouTube - Speed Kills - Metal Method Guitar Lesson DVD
good luck.
the bits and pieces i can keep up with and play are the most fun i've had playing a guitar. Worth it.
the bit at 2:55 will either make you insane trying to duplicate or make you put down your guitar for good having seen the best thing ever.
Ok...... and how is this instructional in anyway? He's just showing his guitar-peen and his sound is crap. Sounds like a 8 bit videogame having a seizure. Made me feel like playing Double Dragon on SNES lol.
It was taken from the DVD, it's not an 8min DVD...most instructional DVDs play a whole song after they have thoroughly taught the viewer how to play.
Having said this, i would recommend to you something from the jonas brother's catalog, or perhaps twinkle twinkle little star since that seems to be more up your alley. Seriously; MAB is incredible. Great sound and flawless technique. The crap sound you're hearing is youtube, not him.Ok...... and how is this instructional in anyway? He's just showing his guitar-peen and his sound is crap. ^This. It's a very common technique in instructional videos. It was taken from the DVD, it's not an 8min DVD...most instructional DVDs play a whole song after they have thoroughly taught the viewer how to play.
Lighten up yo, It's pretty clear from his listed preferences that he just doesn't want to head down the Skwisgaar Skwigelf road of guitar playing. That's hardly going Jonas Bros.
+10 points for mentioning Skwisgaar. Made me rofl.
Ok fine, megadeth is fairly close to metallica, since you had that listed, just a bit more technical, but not much. Offspring is fairly simplistic at times but the songs are a blast to play. Same with early greenday (dookie album etc). If you're looking to branch out, listen to some B.B. King or Robert Johnson. Blues and rock meld extremely well and that'll broaden your playing. Yngwie malmsteen is a great virtuoso, but he's closer to the Skwisgaar or MAB route. He's still worth a listen as alot of his work is classical inspired, which is where the basis for alot of the faster metal stems from.
Edit: Joe satriani is fantasic (he's actually Kirk Hammett's guitar teacher), so is steve vai. Both usually don't have vocals, and are a little fast, but you'll definitely learn something listening to them. They are really inventive in their playing and will get you thinking in different directions. Should give you a broader range of style as well.
Learn to read sheet music, if you haven't already.
Then go to your nearest music store and buy a copy of Bach's cello suites. If you can, get some transposed into treble clef, which will simplify things on guitar a load. There's few things better than playing them well on a guitar. Well, playing them well on a cello's better, but cellos are expensive and my bowing technique's crap.
I do appreciate all the inputs. I would say closest thing to what I'm asking for would be Offspring since i've known their songs for years and yeah they're fun to play so if you guys know of a similar group, please share![]()

Edit: That one is way too mellow, at least in the beginning, try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ0iww5u6_I
Already play cliff of dover (at least the part I like, some of the fast part i'll pass) but thanks anyway ^-^
