NEWARK, Ohio - A 28-year-old man has been charged with drunken driving after crashing his motorized bar stool, Ohio authorities said.

Police in Newark, 30 miles east of Columbus, say when they responded to a report of a crash with injuries on March 4, they found a man who had wrecked a bar stool powered by a deconstructed lawn mower.

Police released the 911 tapes, revealing the calm exchange between the driver's friend and the dispatcher.

"I got a friend who wrecked a bar stool," the caller said.

When asked by the dispatcher whether he hit his head inside the bar, the friend replied, "Um, no, he was riding the bar stool ... a motorized bar stool."

Kile Wygle, the bar-stool rider, was hospitalized for minor injuries.

During an interview after his crash, Wygle told the reporter, "I drank quite a bit after I wrecked."

Police say he was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he told an officer at the hospital that he had consumed 15 beers.

Wygle told police his motorized bar stool can go up to 38 mph.

Wygle has pleaded not guilty and has requested a jury trial.

You can get a DUI on a bike and (I think) a horse too. But if a cop ever tried to give me a DUI on a bike, I'd also have to get arrested for assaulting a police officer.

In VA you can get arrested for being drunk in public even if you're trying to walk home instead of driving.

Pretty sure public intoxication is (at least) a ticketable offense almost everywhere, as far as being something you can get arrested for, iono.

In New York a buddy of mine got arrested for carrying an open bottle of beer- he had just exited the liquor store and was on his way back to the car (he wasn't the driver) with the beer and he had a court date set and all.. ended up with a $75 fine. Crazy imo.

My friend and his brother were sitting in his car on a winter night waiting for a taxi to show up and he got arrested for DWI. Didn't even have his keys in the ignition. If he could have afforded a lawyer he would have been able to beat it, but alas, he could not. He spent the next few years biking places, and couldn't get a job driving at UPS because of it.

I was once given a summons to a criminal court for riding my bike on the sidewalk, when there were clearly no bike lanes and I didn't want to get my ass fucking owned by oncoming traffic. Of course a month later, the summons got thrown away before it even got a chance.

Reminds me of my grandpa's friend that was too blind to drive so he rode a bicycle with a lawnmower engine attached to it.

Also, holy crap @ 38 mph bar stool, most crappy bikes will wobble to death and throw 99% of people at that kind of speed even.

Yep they do the same thing here lol, it happened to me in Myrtle Beach when I was 19. Spent 3 days of spring break in lock up.
