Since when was 'free hosting of terabytes of your stuff' ever a viable business model, anyway?

Whelp, I'm going to miss them. Was one of the few sites where I could find a patch to any of my games, and not have to deal with registering/paying for an account because the game companies were too much of a cheap-ass to pay for a dedicated server to supply said patches themselves.
(which is why I'm loving Steam a lot these days.......auto-updates ftw)

Even with the correct ports opened the blizzard downloader is still very very slow. There's a reason they've allowed people to preload the 3.1 patch over the last two weeks.

Isn't blizzards updater a P2P system, b/c their to cheap to provide the needed bandwidth to supply the millions of WoW players each update ?

P2P systems are a brilliant move for large game patches and more companies (*COUGH COUGH* SQUARE) would do well to implement them.

The problem is the blizzard client doesn't do a very good job of requesting segments, so it ends up wasting a lot of time downloading chunks that you already have. Run a regular blizzard patch through utorrent and I promise you'll see a visible difference in speed.

And it's only noticeable slower then it should be on like patch days when the entire community is trying to DL it at the same time... just wait for 3.1 (lol...), not only is everyone gonna be trying to DL it at once, but everyone and their double/accts will be as they race for the server first titles. Will remind me of those FFXI patch days when everyone spammed the "play" button's in order to get to the Kings first... oh wait.

edit: QQ more if ur saying you wouldnt go back to playing "WoW" cause the "Patcher on patch days" sucks
