I work at a bar, so I am almost never awake at 10 in the morning. Hell, I don't think I've watched Price is Right since long before Bob Barker retired. Well, thanks to a moron mis-dialing my cell this morning, I was up early and turned it on.
The Price is Right is such an icon of TV game shows that most people I believe would not only know how to play, but would know the little tricks that are often used.
There's the classic 1 dollar bid when you believe everyone else has overbid. Or the equally classic dick move of bidding 1 dollar more than the highest bid when you think they're all too low.
Well, the first 4 contestants are bidding on a PS3 with a bunch of games and accessories. Contestant #1 bids $750, #2 bids $900, #3 $650. This is the perfect set-up for a 901 bid. So what does contestant #4 bid? $649. Now, if she really thought everyone was over then $1 would be the bid to make. She was basically guessing that the price was exactly $649. Needless to say she was wrong and the $900 bid won.
Moving on to the next round, contestants bidding on an oven. Contestant #1 bids $1100, #2 $1150, #3 $1250. Again, perfect set up for $1251 if you think they are all too low or $1 if you think they're all too high. But no, contestant #4 (not even same moron as last round) bids $1099. So again the idiot is guessing that the price is exactly $1099, and of course he is wrong.
Now, like I said, I haven't watched this show in years, but are the people playing really this stupid now? Are they just grabbing morons off the street to play? Any of you guys watch it often enough to know?
