Fan Fest 2009, will it happen?

So I looked at when they announced the 2008 fan fest, and if they were gonna announce it for this year it should have happened by now. Does anyone know if they are even planning on having one this year or not?

They are not going to spring a Fanfest in '09 on us; if they were going to do it this year it would've been announced in July/August. My bet is spring/summer '10 to combine it with XIV.

Vanafest is the JP Fan Fest btw. So I don't think one is happening.

I've talked to a couple of people (GMs, community board leaders, etc) and nobody seems to know if it's going to happen this year. Given the lack of information and the fact that nothing big seems planned, plus the fact that this quarter's update is happening November instead of December like last year...I'm guessing 2009 isn't going to have a fan fest this year.

Yeah looking at all that info myself before hand I was thinking that. I had the money and time off to go this year if it was gonna happen. Was hoping other players out there might have heard something. But the facts seem so show, it ain't gonna happen.

For the FanFests, they like to have something relatively big to announce or show off as part of the activities. In previous years its been major expansions, add-on expansions, and large update additions to let people try and see before the next update (like MMM, beseiged, jobs, etc).

They also like to list off theoretical content plans for the future. Seeing as how they've been dragging out WotG as slowly as possible, its pretty clear that the amount of upcoming content is little as their focus turns to 14.

Any developer panel Q&As would turn into people asking questions about 14 or how 11 and 14 are planned for co-existence.

Also, they usually like to have various creative contests planned and give people warning in advance so they can start preparing things. Since SE recently announced the Shantotto art contest, they probably aren't going to announce another art contest atop it any time soon.

I'm really disappointed. Was looking forward to going to FanFest this year since I haven't been able to go in the past. I'd been saving money all year in anticipation so I could attend.

The 2008 fanfest was announced on 9/16, and then was 3 weeks before they said where/when (actual date 12/5-6). Given we're a full month past that in 09 so far, I'd bet money against a 2009 event.

I've already allocated my vacation days elsewhere....

I fully expect a 1Q10 event for an 11/14 combined thingy at this point.

Also, better be a 2kppl event, not a 500 ppl thing, and oh pls keep the open bar and lunch buffet.

Personally, I've been waiting for this. The past few years, I've been busy overseas in the military and this year was the first time I was on shore duty and could go... *sigh*.

I have to agree, unless SE surprises us with a new expansion or some new system I don't think there will be a fanfest this year.

they JUST finished the add-on scenarios. No way they've had time to work on a new expansion especially in time for a december event.

If they are planning a Fanfest, my guess would be that it would be in the spring like the first one in Santa Monica (March).

As for releasing anything big..... eh..... It's been a year(ish) since the last one, so their 'planned content' is almost up. The only reason they would bother having one would be if they were putting out a new expansion, which I see as very unlikely with all of the hubbub over 14 and these addons.

However, depending how they divide up the work in the process of making content, for all we know, they could be making a story for some new expansion that we have no idea about and without focusing on the actual construction of an in game model, it leaves them open to the possibility of actually upping the graphics.This is highly unlikely and the only reason I bring this up is because of the recent discontinuation of the Win2000 support. Didn't the PS2 come out around 2000...... >.>?
