    Great Horror FPS

Hey all. I'm a big fan of horro games, especially when it's mixed with FPS style gameplay. I've been wondering if you guys know of any underrated, or not as known games that you guys have played.

One that I am playing right now that absolutely fantastic (lag issues aside)
    is Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason.

Also, a nice (shorter) game that is actually a 3 part story is Penumbra. You can get it off Steam for 10 bucks for all 3, but it's one of the scariest games I've played. And it is not one of the generic jumpy type horror games either.

Anyone know of any other good ones?
(Already know about Stalker, Bioshock, FEAR 2, etc-- Looking for not as popular games).

I've heard Fatal Frame series was pretty good, though it's not a FPS (only when you use the camera element)

The Suffering is decent, but it's 3rd person, as are Dead Space/RE4.

    What about Call of Cthulu?

I hear the first Condemned game was pretty scary, although I'm not sure how popular it is. I know it's also in First Person, but I'm not sure if you do actual "shooting". : p

System Shock 2 if you can get a copy from a torrent or something and find all of the updated textures online. For being so old it's still one of the most atmospherically scary games around.

Doom 3 creeped me out pretty good.

Clive Barker's Undying was fun if you can get past the fact you shoot left handed with no way to swap.

I second Fatal Frame 2. Not a FPS but damn that game gave me the jumps more then any other game. It's still creepy to replay at night...

Whole Fatal Frame series, yesss <3 Those game are just creepy. Other games are scary too etc. but I think Fatal Frame was the only one that made me jump on my chair when playing on a couple of occasions (ok and the beginning of Dead Space too)

I'm going to third my own recommendation. Haven't played a game as 'scary' (jump out of your seat-y) as Deadspace, AND you can crush skulls / body parts underneath your huge boots. AWESOME!

Deadspace is my nightmares. I don't even feel safe in the safe rooms, and that damn whispering...

    Makes sense though.

I have dead space but never got further then 20-30 into it... make me want to pick it back up and finish it. I can only play those games at night though or they lose any "scare" effect they may have

All I can say is, keep playing. I'm like that with many games- Fallout 3 being the latest, I couldn't stand it first play-through and played for maybe an hour or two... and now i'm closed to completing it on a second try, and can't get enough of it. Deadspace was like that for me, once I sat down for an evening, I could not put it down.

I was too much of a pussy to play, the only scary games I can handle are Silent Hill and Resident Evil (at least before 4). But once I heard some minor details about the story + being curious about the whole event, I was compelled to play through. Let's just say I was happy to play on the toilet.
