    Oregon Trail/Carmen Sandiago/Amazon Trail - The Classics

Figured I'd share a site that I just found with everyone. Haven't tried any of them myself but looks promising. I remember people talking about the classic games in another thread on here I believe.

Glenns Guides. Seems to have a frame that loads in the top part of the site, NoScript suggested.

Yay MS-DOS! Even better looking up windows 1.0 and other old commercials.

Now I remember what made Elementary School so cool.

I guess now I can blame school for my love for games.

I really wish I could make the PC versions of The Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego work. I had the 1996 edition and that was pretty fun, since you had to both get clues on their location and find out about their appearance with things such as their height, width, and hair color.

PC version of Oregon Trail was similar to the DOS one, except better graphics and MIDI music.

I really wish they'd reboot both series as DLC or something. However since Lynne Thigpen (the person who played the Chief in the TV series and games) died back in 2003, it would seem unusual without seeing her :\

I remember the trifecta of awesome in elementary school: Number Munchers, Oregon Trail, and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago.

    What is/was Amazon Trail?

I also remember how someone (not me, no never) uploaded Doom and Mortal Kombat on to our computers in the business classroom in high school. This was the class that taught typing and accounting, so quite a few of us would scramble to finish 90 minutes of work in a third of the time, and play games the rest of class.

Heh, I got extra credit in social studies/history (same teacher) for staying 20 minutes after school to just go to our schools computer lab and play Oregon Trail, Carmen Sandiego, or Sim City. It got to the point I didn't even bother studying for tests and I still passed with a 120% A++, I couldn't tell you anything about the Myan civilization, but I could tell you how much weight you could have max on your wagon so you didn't sink crossing the river.

Amazon Trail and Yukon Trail were both variants of the Oregon Trail games. The idea was pretty much the same: you'd start in some town, pick a guide (one always leads you into a fuckload of trouble), head out on the trail and see if you made it to the end.

In Amazon trail you'd fish up stuff, bad stuff could happen like the boat would flip over or you'd get attacked by a jaguar or something. Shit was fun.

I found Yukon/Amazon to be harder than the Oregon.

Math Blaster motherfuckers. That was like the only game my parents would let me play when I was a youngun.

And every single computer at our middle school was loaded up with Civilization and Oregon Trail, at least until I ninjaed Warcraft 2 and Duke Nukem 3D onto all of them in 7th grade.

Lol I've played like every one of the games listed in elementary. I saw Oregon trail the other day I think at Best Buy and bought it lol. It isn't as fun as I remember, but still a classic.

My schools never had Oregon Trail, Carmen, or Civilization goodness. ;/

We had the usual Number Muncher (and it's billion variants), I was pretty damn good at that. Also had those Reader Rabbits (bleh), a bunch of other K-4 edutainment shit, some Math Blaster (ashamed to say I own it), and Missile Command which I was fucking king at.

Oh yeah, also had this little gem, Zoombinis, played the shit out of that. I love me logic puzzlers.

There was also another game we had but I can't recall the name of it. It involved some bodyless kid who wears a red cap backwards, and goes into rooms solving logic puzzles involving magnets, lights, etc...
