Intel joins the cooling crowd?
IDF 2009 : présentation du ventirad du processeur Gulftown hexacore - Presentation of Gulftown (Core i9) 6-core Heatsink
I can do a quick & dirty translation of this page, but the pictures do a much better job.

Zooming in on this last pic to see what kind of temps it's getting, it really doesn't seem that impressive - 78/75/74/71 for Cores 0/1/2/3 on what seems to be a 1366-based Core i7. Those temps are easily beaten by just about any aftermarket cooler on the market. Then again, I'm thinking they just tossed the sucker in their test machine without any kind of thermal compound.

Well I don't speak French but... are you sure that's not just the stock heatsinks they'll be shipping with their extreme edition i7?

It's the boxed cooler, judging from the article.

I donated 5 bucks and all I got was this shitty title from Zet
That's pretty elaborate for a stock cooler. But I guess that's normal now, the heatsink I got some months back with my retail i7 920 was really heavy and a bit beyond what I expected to be in the box.

Pens win! Pens Win!!! PENS WIN!!!!!
Since i speak french i will translate the important parts.
Mostly it says it's a Fan for socket 1366, Intel insist that it is really silent but they cannot judge since they are in a big room. They havn't decided if it will be white or black (lol?). It will be in the next generation of core I7 extreme "gulftown". Maybe in the future I9 too
So yes only a Fan

One more image in regards to the question about this being stock..

I'm not sure if this means the design is geared towards enthusiasts or if it will be an optional upgrade (i.e. OEM cooling upgrade or a true aftermarket cooling solution).
