Who Framed Roger Rabbit II in the works?

Exclusive: 'Roger Rabbit' Writers Working On Sequel, Robert Zemeckis Says - Movie News Story | MTV Movie News

In the spring, and out of nowhere, Robert Zemeckis exclusively revealed to MTV News that new digital tools like performance-capture technology had him buzzing about finally making a sequel to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." But there's a big difference between being excited about a project and actually moving forward with it.

MTV News has now exclusively learned that Zemeckis is not only pumped to bring the flustered cartoon bunny back to the big screen after 20 years, but that he has commissioned a script. And guess who's writing it? Original scribes Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman.

"There's a script that's being developed," he revealed, adding, "We've got the original writers that are working on it now — Seaman and Price."

There have been many false starts on another "Roger Rabbit" over the years, with potential sequels and prequels cropping up in rumors but never becoming realities — and for those who think only Zemeckis should helm the second "Roger" helping, that's a good thing. The director said he was never involved in any of those other ideas.

"I think there was a time right after the movie came out that the Disney regime at the time — it was a point in the life of the studio where if you made a successful movie they could no longer afford to hire you back," he laughed. "I guess there were some projects that I don't know anything about."

We learned a bunch more about the upcoming film, info we'll be rolling out in the next couple of days. Just how will Zemeckis employ those new digital tools as he marries cartoons with real people? Which characters from the past — Jessica Rabbit? Eddie Valiant? — will we see? As Zemeckis said with a smile at one point during the interview, "You're gonna have to wait!"
Hmmm... Amazing sequel in the works? Or complete trainwreck? Maybe stalled in Production Hell? Guess we'll see.

Hope it's stalled. Could never live up to the first. Although RZ is a great director.

I imagine it has potential, but with animation these days what kind of characters would we see?

Can Disney they get the approval from Warner Brothers to use the looney toons like the first movie?

I hope the movie doesn't pull through as it'll never top the first one.

I thought in the first movie they ONLY agreed to allow the use of the Disney and Warner characters if they got exactly the same screen time? Or so I've read somewhere, I'll find the source soon I hope...

Besides, yeh with animation these day I think they should leave it alone.

As cool as the idea sounds, if they make it, it will probably be a CG mess. I doubt they can re-make the "magic" of the first one.

Exhibit A: The new Astro Boy movie.

Modern animation studios don't really give two shits about what made original, fun IPs like Donald Duck or Bugs Bunny really memorable and fun to watch on a big screen. At every turn in the original film most of RR's 'original' cast was outshined by Bob Hoskins/Christopher Lloyd being awesome and the cameos from the WB/Disney toons. Making a sequel that revolves around much of the same original cast (minus obviously Lloyd) is an ominous sign they've forgotten that.

Jessica Rabbit is so hot. Doesn't look like she's aged at all.

That being said, I wonder what cartoons they'd get to even relate to kids nowadays?
Do they even know who the likes of Porky Pig and Bugs Bunny are? ;x

Disney and WB only agreed to do the movie if Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse both got equal screen time and equal numbers of lines.

I found some interesting stuff i wiki about the WB/ Disney character thing..

Spielberg convinced Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures (Famous Studios and Fleischer Studios) and Universal Pictures (Winkler Pictures and Walter Lantz Productions) to "lend" their characters to appear in the film with (in some cases) stipulations on how those characters were portrayed; for example, Disney's Donald Duck and Warner's Daffy Duck appear as equally-talented dueling pianists, and Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny also share a scene.

also said they couldn't get tom and jerry

They could do it old-school style and have the animation hand-drawn and leave the toons CG free, but like that would ever happen

I got my first erection from that Why Don't You Do Right scene back in 88. Surely I'm not the only one.
