"Out of Range"

I've tried booting up a game (league of legends, dota guys made it) and every time it boots up my screen goes black and my monitor says "Out of Range" V = 74.9hz and H=62.x, I checked my settings and I've got my monitor set to refresh at 75hz, but it's only doing it at 74.7hz? I'm not exactly sure how to go about remedying this particular problem, and thus far google has been no help.

I've tried running the game in windowed mode (which it won't do for some reason, stupid text config files) and tried changing the resolution for the game, but everything I do in the apparent 'proper' text file doesn't seem to actually change anything when I run the game.

Any tips or tricks welcome here.

edit: whatever the H value was it was well within range I believe, I think just the "V" value was slightly off

Is the config file not changing anything, or the changes made just aren't helping?

Are you using an actual monitor, or are you using an LCD TV as a monitor? The reason I ask is that the latter may not have many valid resolutions to use.

Setting Windowed from 0 to 1 in the config file doesn't do anything, and it's not being rewritten when the game starts up (which was an apparent problem with some people), so I'm not sure why that's not working.

also, it's just a regular monitor, not an LCD TV.

the game is (what it looks like anyway) set to run at 1280x760 (or whatever that res is, something near that) which my computer should have no trouble doing. I run TF2 at max settings at 1440x900 with no lag to speak of, and on my roommate's computer this (league of legends) doesn't look any more intensive than WC3 or WoW

I don't have the game, so not sure I can provide much help. But I am curious, have you tried renaming/deleting the file and seeing if the game recreates it? And if not, whether or not it fixes the problem or incurs a different error?



Might also be looking in the wrong place for the file, are you sure it doesn't exist anywhere else? Like say under user profiles, instead of the game install folder?

Not sure, it may be a different config file that I need to change.

Anyway, new revelation, if I change my desktop to some horribad res. like 1024x768, the game runs, and in-game I can just change it to 1440x900 and it still stays fine. But if my desktop res. is 1440x900, the game refuses to run properly (or rather my monitor doesn't like whatever's different). If that helps at all, not like it's a huge deal changing my desktop res back and forth, just a minor annoyance, but if there's something I can do that will actually make everything run smoother let me know
