    Bluetooth?

I have a phone I'd like to use bluetooh with my laptop (since it has no USB). When I search for bluetooth on my laptop, my phone is not detected and when I search for bluetooh with my phone, my laptop is not detected.

    Both have bluetooth turned on.

What can I do to fix it?

Have you ever paired either devices with other devices? Bluetooth doesn't like pairing itself with too many things at once. You should be able to delete any pairing history within the Bluetooth settings.

What OS and service pack does your laptop use?

Here's a link to a Microsoft help page (assuming you're using Windows). See if anything helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883258

I've never used Bluetooth at all before, actually.

    Vista and service pack II.

    Vista... hmm.
So you have Bluetooth built into the computer with the 'Bluetooth Devices' option in the control panel?

I assume you do. So you press 'Set up a Bluetooth enabled device', click 'Add' and then the wizard pops up, but it won't find the phone in the device selection part?

Both have Bluetooth turned on... on the laptop, that's in the Bluetooth Device box under Options and 'Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer'?

I'm sure this has all been checked, but I just want to be sure that the usual stuff has been done before looking further into it.

The vista menu is diff from the xp menu. I already tried googling this and there is no "allow bluetooth devices to connect to this computer" under options. And i've clicked just about everywhere else and couldn't find it.

Ok, can you show me a screen grab of 'Advanced' in 'Bluetooth Information Exchanger' and 'Settings' in the 'IT Security Settings' of the 'IT Admin' tab please.
Also, hit 'Delete All' in the 'Security' tab. Should make a difference, but good to cover all bases.

What's the make and model of your phone? Do you have any other Bluetooth devices that you can test by connecting to the phone and laptop? (Like a handsfree device or such)

Just since we are covering the basic's since you said you haven't used the bluetooth before. I know you said your phones blue tooth is on. But do you have it set to be visible to others? There's on option that after its on, to make it available for search for say 2-3min? Hope that helps.

I didn't see an option for it tbh, but it wouldn't pick up my computer either when I searched for it..

As for the tabs, I'll screen them in a sec

Edit: yea on the phone, only 4 options
    1) Turn bluetooth off (or on)
    2) My devices (scan for stuff)
    3) Bluetooth services (just gives an info packet on handset vs headset)
    4) Help (which takes you to t-zones, t-mobile)

Was there any software that came with the Bluetooth you didn't install? I know it's a shot in the dark but only thing I can think of.

Nothing in the user manual of your phone, which is annoying.

We can try completely uninstalling Bluetooth from your computer, which means going into the registry and deleting bits in there, and then installing it again.
It's a bit of a pain and comes with some risks (OS not wanting to reinstall Bluetooth at all) but by all means and accounts, everything should be working as expected so unless anyone else has any good ideas, I can run you through what to do to reinstall the Bluetooth software on the laptop.

    This.

As for the reinstall, I'll try to get my hands on something else bluetooth this week before trying that, just in case it works fine and the phone is the problem.

Ahh, I forgot about some laptops having that.

EDIT: Cream, if you're going to try for a USB drive I'd suggest this: http://www.iogear.com/product/GBU421/ this is what I got today and it worked like a charm with my phone.

Aye, that's a good idea. Hopefully it's not the phone though.

They may as long as you can prove you're on the plan. It's only help after all and not trying to change the plan or anything.
