Fax machine?

My uncle's friend is asking me to help him set up his fax machine and I just can't seem to get it to work.

He initially had it set up to his cable model, which wasn't giving it a dial tone, so I tried disconnecting it and tried going directly to the phone jack. After doing this, the machine would recognize when it's getting a fax, but it would then fail to receive faxes that are sent.

I ran a fax trest report

Fax hardware test: Pass
Fax connected to active telephone wall jack: Pass
Phone cord connected to correct port on fax: Pass
Using correct type of phone cord with fax: Pass
Dial tone detection: Pass
Fax line condition test: Pass

While it was connected to his cable model (He has phone through brighthouse or something), it was passing everything except the dial tone test. Either way, the fax doesn't seem to be working on either and I'm not sure what to do atm.

Anyone have a suggestion for me?

he does his own business or something and he says his clients expect him to be faxable.

cable modems have dial tones?

are you sure hes not using DSL? if this is the case your gonna need a filter for the fax machine to properly work.

yea it's cable. It's brighthouse (Do they even do DSL?) but yea definitely sure it's cable.

Ah its one of the all in one type deals, they handle cable phone internet on the modem i guess.... sorry i have no idea at this point.
