The Jeff Dunham Show

Hey all. As many of you know, I work on television shows. Well, I got my first series editing gig recently, and it's on The Jeff Dunham Show on Comedy Central, which premieres in one week on Thursday, Oct. 22nd at 9pm/8 central.

I'm sure that on here, like in the general population, opinions of Jeff Dunham's brand of ventriloquist comedy vary widely, so I'm curious if anyone plans to watch the show and what they think.

If anyone is asking the question "how did -that- guy get a show?" look no further than the fact that his most recent standup special had the highest ratings for any program in Comedy Central history, and he was the 3rd highest grossing comedian last year behind Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock, just on his touring and DVD/Merch sales alone. Love him or hate him, the guy is wildly popular - we'll just see if that translates into good ratings for this show.

I, for one, hope so. My career and income depend on it...

Anyway, in this 7 episode season I cut 4 segments and did notes on just about everything else. If people have questions once it starts airing, feel free to ask (I'll answer whatever I can within the confines of my NDA).

The preview for his show looks good, least he's funny with what he does, I'll be watching it.

Pretty funny perview and I love he Jeff Dunham so definitely watching this but sadly Only way for me is Bittorrent.

I was worried he wouldn't have enough material for an entire season, but if it is only 7 episodes it should be pretty good. Saw him in person, his performance and improvisation due to mistakes and audience input were both very entertaining.

I'll be watching for sure, love Dunham. He is actually fantastic at Improv. Last show I went to that he did, they were showing old reels of him on the Best Damn Sports Show Period with Walter and he was just roasting all the guys on the show straight from the hip. So I'm sure he'll have plenty of material to go around.

I really enjoyed Dunham's stand up, didn't even know he was getting a show (but to be honest, I don't watch much television aside from hockey). I'll probably catch an episode or DVR it since you're a fellow video guy.

I'm not really much of a fan of Jeff Dunham. Besides that, I'm getting kind of tired of all of these shows comedians are getting, almost all of them fail pretty hard. They need to just stick to standup.

I do think this show will be better than Secret Girlfriend though.

I generally find Dunham amusing, I'm not sure how ventriloquism + stand up translate into a show with a reasonable lifespan, no matter how high the ratings were on his special.

I'm canceling my cable since I don't watch it enough to justify what it costs, but I'd probably watch an episode or two to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I LOVE Dunham's stand up, but I doubt that it will translate well to a show. Makes me sad

his stand-up specials have been decent. I dont find him extraordinarily funny, but theres been lots worse.
however I HATE his fans. some of his jokes are just retarded, but everyone seems to love those jokes the most.
I don't know how well a show based on his act will go. most of his acts are filled with catchphrases. everyone one of his character has one or two or three, and they repeat them so often.

the majority of his jokes are just funny voices. soon the audience will adjust to them and will lose some of its impact.
Though I could be wrong. I never would have thought those blue color comedy people would have ever gotten a show.
Just goes to show they know how to cater to their audience.

Important Things is better than most of comedy centrals trash, so bite your tongue

For the record I'm not a huge fan of his standup (god I hope noone that matters reads this) but I think the show is funnier than the standup.

I have never once laughed at Important Things. His in show segments are PAINFUL to watch.
