    Ys Seven

Anyone here play this? I am pretty much in love with this game, feel like an idiot for sleeping on it for so long. This is my first Ys game, definitely want to know which ones to play next if not all.

Right now I am at the Wind Sanctum, gotta say really like Adol/Dogi/Sigroon. Playing on Hard but really regretted it once I learned about flash guarding. Definitely will play again. The solo boss fight you do with Adol and shitty equipment was fucking crazy. Took me a while but became really easy once I started to just be patient and parry everything.

Soundtrack is pretty amazing as well, I don't think I have ever heard such an awesome theme for a desert area, let alone a starting area.

I will probably edit this when I find better videos but for those that don't know of the awesomeness.

If you're looking for something else that's like Ys 7, then stay away from the Ys series.
    I'm not kidding.

That said, I can't tell you which ones are good... I've only played 6 and it's not really like 7 by the looks of things (I was not a fan btw, mostly due to the required grinding... always hated that each time I hit a new area I'd suddenly be hitting everything for 1 damage)

It makes me sad to hear none of the other games are like Seven but I hear great things about Oath in Felghana. I played a bit and Adol jumps as high as super mario, looks like it could be fun. Sucks I won't be able to obliterate things as Dogi though.

That only happens in Ark of Napishtim and even then it means you were going to the wrong areas. I only remember hitting for 1 damage against enemies when I went exploring in places the story wasn't leading towards yet. Oath in Felghana and Ys Seven are both way better games in anycase.

Nope, I was going to the right areas every time. I even looked at a guide after it happened the 3rd time because it was pissing me off.

Yeah, I had the same shit happen to me. Luckily the downward thrust attack is ridiculously good, so you can still take shit out and the levels come pretty quickly if you actually kill the shit that are higher level than you. Still was an annoyance, but overall was a good game. Felghana was vastly better though, in pretty much every way. Both are definitely worth checking out if you like Seven, but Seven is honestly on a completely different level to those with how polished it feels. That's not to say the older games (ones I've played, anyway) aren't damn fine games too though.

Finishing up the Sea Sanctum in Seven, going to try to finish off the game. Got Ark of Napishtim patched and ready to go for PC. Damn it looks much better, glad I didn't go with the PSP version of this lol. I think the added voice acting is enough for me to play Oath on PSP though, also since it doesn't look like they changed much.

Edit: Wow I am pretty disappointed how much the difficulty on boss fights took a huge nosedive. O'Balon basically laid there and let me rape him, felt like a skill/combo exhibition more than a boss fight. I am going to guess playing on Nightmare won't do much? The shrine bosses were much harder than the sanctum dragons.

Nightmare is a whole different beast in Ys. It adds new attacks (or upgrades them) for most bosses, making some much harder instead of just the generic damage/health increase.

I sure hope so, damn I guess I should have played Nightmare then. I pretty much solo'd the moon dragon with Adol, didn't even need to flashguard until you have to attack his front/face until he dies.

I was really hoping this would be made for the PC. Nightmare on Ys VI was epic.

I am actually doing that myself right now! I am very impressed with how damn nice the game looks cranked. I nearly shat bricks at the Altago reference, that was pretty surprising.

I really enjoy the jumping/platforming in dungeons, it can be frustrating but satisfying. I notice this game is way more difficult in terms of how many monsters gang up on you. I had retards throwing exploding projectiles, flying birds dropping off golems, plants also throwing projectile sawblade shaped things. Already almost LV30, I hope this game is much longer than it's feeling out to be.

Just finished Ys Seven on Nightmare (my first play through), and it has been one of the most satisfying and fun games I've played in a very long time. Every boss battle made me think, and the story was engaging and less predictable than most of them these days.
If you like RPGs, and you haven't played this, you're doing a disservice to yourself. I cried like a little bitch at the ending.

I'd like to point out that Team JDK = best vidya composers ever.

thinking of getting this for the PSP. I probably will eventually. just bought my PSP though, so I have a ton of new games to play at the moment.

I did thoroughly enjoy Oath in Felghana for the PC, although I lost interest around the castle level. love the way the game controls; I don't think I've ever played an action RPG that felt more fluid. hopefully Ys 7 kept that part of the combat intact at least.

Wow really? I thought it was the best dungeon in the game, I loved the ridiculous platforming you have to pull off in the clocktower section.

7 is fairly... "different" to the other Ys games, but in my eyes it's vastly better. The music and great boss design are still there, but the gameplay is just improved tenfold. Only "issue" (and calling it that is a stretch) I have with the game is that it's rather easy if you get used to the guard system. It makes you take literally 0 damage and gives you free critical hits for a few seconds afterwards. Of course if you jump in to the game on Nightmare you'll still get your ass handed to you though, lol.

I'll have to check it out once I've exhausted my supply of new games, then. I have a love/hate relationship with the Ys series, but when it's good it's really good, and most everything from the PS2 era forward has been good.

too bad this isn't on PC though. Felghana looks so goddamn gorgeous on the PC.
