    Laptop dead

Had a HP dv6000, eventually the power adapter plug where it connects to the computer started to fall apart

The metal tip started to break apart from the black plastic tubing, so I had to have the cord propped at an angle to charge the laptop. It eventually broke off completely, rendering the charger useless.

I waited maybe 7-8 months before i bought another charger because i just could use the desktop im on now. didnt feel like paying 100~ for another charger.

I finally bought a charger for it, received the wrong one at first, finally got the right one. Went to plug it in, now the laptop seems to be getting no power, at all. The blue light on the laptop indicating that its plugged in no longer comes on.

Could it be the power supply thats fried or the motherboard completely? I really want all my pictures and music thats on the HDD, would be nice to save the laptop as well though.

First of all, are you sure that you got the correct charger? Or if it is working or not? I don't think it'll fry the mobo, but it might've damaged the power unit.

Any luck with running it from battery?

HD shoulnd't be a problem as long as its not damaged, tech service or yourself can recover the data/

took me a few tries, but i got the correct charger. I would have taken it to a shop, but then I thought... I have porn on there, and I've heard those stories, so that made me weary of bringing it into a shop. I had comtemplated buying a motherboard/power unit and replacing it myself.

ok, disassembled my laptop, got down to the motherboard and all.
Looking at the DC Jack... I'm wondering if just this part got messed up

I see one for like $22 bucks... Has anyone heard of just this part failing?

I have seen two laptops with just that part failing. (one was my brothers and another was a friend's).

They were both to lazy to go through the efforts to try and replace it themselves though.

The one we actually did find that the problem was that the connection wasn't being fully made (the problem being on the dc jack as the charger had a light on itself to indicate power) by using I think aluminum foil and it worked fine. I ended up calling dell though for them and it was still under warranty so they got it fixed for free.
