My dad found this old Compaq 1200ta Laptop computer. He's not demanding, as he only wants to play online poker and check his email. It has WinXp but looks like it came with ME. It's password protected (at both windows login and setup) and I can't get into the system restore. Aside from buying restore discs (idk if I can even do that), is it possible to do the factory restore? It doesn't even have an old floppy drive.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but does it have WinXP on it or ME? If it's ME... part of the reason that OS was a joke is because you can bypass the login screen just by hitting the escape key.
Otherwise, you can use either Isi's solution or the one I use at work: http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ which will crack the passwords for you.
