    Absolute Best Laptop

    No netbooks

Post your absolute favorite/best laptops, no price or other restrictions. Just the laptop you love the most. Looking for something to upgrade to myself, but I also like shiny things.

I know Sonomaa liked his Vostro he got a while back, and I'm particularly fond of Dell laptops usually, but I'm hoping someone can expand my horizons and show me a laptop that's nice.

Also, not the same as the laptop guide thread. Not looking for price/comparison/howtobuy/etc--this is more like the show off your rig

I'm currently 'in love' with this one : http://www.amazon.com/Pavilion-DV7-2...d=DWLD2EWQR40H

Been eye balling it for about 3 months now :3 If my tax money didnt already have a home i'd have probably bought it. It has gone up 100$ in the last month tho not sure why....Only thing that made me look at it to begin with was because it was one of the first laptops I found with a quad core CPU~

I also like my Vostro 1500: 2ghz core2duo, 8400m gs, 4gb ram. It worked well with ffxi as long as you kept the background resolution to something lower like 1024x1024. Could 2box even, pretty decently. It's a bit heavy, but I like the big screen. It did get hot, but never had any overheating issues, extra fan would kick in if it got hot and ppl should be using notebook coolers anyways I bought it 2-3 years ago and it still works perfectly, sans the battery.

Although I don't have personal experience, I only hear good things about Sager's http://www.sagernotebook.com/default.php

My Dell 1530M 15.4" Widescreen [email protected] Core2 Duo 4GB 8600M GT is great... and I love it except it's a piece of shit.

It seems like I'm just overusing it though because it feels like it's just getting worn down after about 2 years everything's just falling apart. First it was the mousepad/surface thing (not the keyboard but the plastic around the keyboard+the touchpad buttons) wore out, such that the buttons were permanently depressed. Then the power adapter completely burnt out, wasnt frayed or anything just died. My speakers gave out about 4 months ago (and I've just been too lazy to get Dell to fix them). Ontop of all that it runs very very hot, for a random two to four months it would run hot enough to powerdown, but that was a while back and then it just stopped doing it and is fine now.

Kinda just want to tell Dell to fuck themselves and give me an entirely new laptop, tbh.

If it werent for it wearing out I'd love this thing so much

If price really isn't an issue I would totally get a Falcon Northwest laptop, they are so sexy.

I have a 17 inch widescreen Dell Inspirion 9300 thats over 7 yrs old. still runs fine and plays ffxi beautifully. graphics aren't maxed but gets it done.

    Intel 1.6 ghz ( I think)
    Win Xp
    ATI Radeon Mobility X300 128mb
    2 gigs ram
    HDD 60 gig

Will probably upgrade when FFXIV comes out. I gotta desktop capable of playing it but I like a laptop for when I travel/lan parties at friends homes.

What's the word on MSI systems? I'm not much for branded computers, and as such notebooks, because I need so much hard drive space that I just build my own desktop. If I buy a branded computer, it's a used Macintosh.

Also, I understand notebooks are only meant to last 2-3 years of usage as a main computer, especially when gaming. I don't game on computers, with how long consoles tend to last and the lower price point of them, and I've only really had one PC considered at all capable of gaming when I got it, which was the one I built for my IT course in 2005 and didn't get to take home until it was over in 2006.

I also have an XPS M1530 because when I bought it the specs were far above anything else I could get for the same price but I wish I had not gone for a Dell.

First one they sent me had a bad harddrive and would bluescreen atleast 2-3 times a week from heavy use. The second one they sent me and the one I have now for the last 18 months is still working.... barely. Like you said the plastic wears out and either side of the touchpad it looks like its had an attack of woodworm or something. It now takes a long time to start up, although it does run fairly well once its loaded up (I've tried reducing number of tasks on startup but it seems unrelated). I do still get occassional blue screens and there was some bad sectors I found on the HDD just after warranty ended but after isolating them it seems to have stopped. It has always run hotter than previous laptops but it went through a period were it would get so hot it was unbearable to have on my lap for even 5 minutes, but that went away.

In terms of ffxi my previous Acer Pentium M 1.5ghz with only 1gb of ram was better for 2boxing because the dell's graphics would always glitch and flicker if I tried to run 2. It does manage to run things like CoD:MW on mid settings if bodies are set to low.

I think that they cloned your laptop and gave me the exact same one.

I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one this has happened to, but then again kind of sad because if I do try and get it replaced it doesnt look very good. When you say you got a second one why and how?

Absolutely no complaints with my Macbook Pro. Has done everything I've ever asked of it, and besides needing to be sprayed with compressed air after 6 months to get rid of dust, hasn't had any problems!

I know there'll be a bit of envy though when the i7 MBPs come out...

Owned a Asus UL80vt for a few months now, absolutely love it.

I'm also really glad I took the few days to take all of the time that I needed in researching it, instead of just buying whatever looked nicest from Target or Best Buy or BJ's or whatever.

I'm actually quite happy with my HP dv6t. Great screen, plenty of inputs, well built, fast, runs games without a problem. Lacks the bells and whistles of the higher end laptops, but for around $1000 I thought it was a great deal for a high performance laptop.
