Windower Issue

Yes i know this isnt the windowwer forums. Ive been waiting like 5 days to be able to post there, but i still havent got access to. Anyways... I got a new laptop on friday and i installed ff, and 3.42windower. However once i try to go from pol>>ff in it, it crashes. I take out plugins, crashes. I run in admin, crashes. I've tried a bunch of different things. If any1 would be willing to try to help me out, it would be VERY much appreciated. Since you didnt say, I have to ask. Can you log all the way into the game with out using windower?

oh, yea i didnt mention that. Yea, without windower i can login no problem. Also, Version4 works, but u cant do anything in 4, so its kinda pointless >.>

I don't believe that windower 3.42 works with windows 7, the version that does is Version 4 and like you can see I don't think they have many of the plugins working yet...

I use Windows 7 and use 3.42 w/ out any issues.

My new PC, with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, runs it just fine. So that's not entirely true.

Some people have been having problems getting it to hook though, which is the same thing's happening for the OP, it seems. I think it's a special type of the Windows 7's. Ultimate in general shouldn't have a problem doing it at least.

yea its windows 7, idk what version or w.e, and yea would seem it wont hook, but i have no idea how to go about trying to get it to hook, and im reallllly frustrated i cant use my new laptop iwth 3.42 lol

Other thread on it, just 10ish threads down. Read it through. Aikar posted a possible fix, though it didn't work for them, it might for you.

i had a prob when i first got win7 64bit ultimate installed, game would crash everytime

to fix it i just had to get the latest windower 3.42, w/ the new hook.dll, turn off UAC and run as admin

the UAC part, thats just goin into control panel and sliding that slider all the way down, or is there more to it

and could be a long shot but you did download the pol from SE's site for 7/vista support right?

yea its slid on the way down, and yes i did. it uninstalled pol, and reinstalled it and had to do all the updates again cuz of it...

im almost willing to reset everything and start over and try stuff again, idk, im jsut really frustrated. If only version 4 had plugins that worked and the non-keyboard issues lol

I had to leave a widget running on mine to get it to start but after that it ran fine and could turn the widget off (until a reboot). Run Win7 and 3.3 windower so may not work but worth a shot.

First of all, do not listen to these idiots who say to turn off UAC. UAC is actually a useful feature that will help prevent shit you don't want from running on your computer. Anyone who says to turn off UAC deserves whatever problems their computer gets.

(However, feel free to turn off screen blinking; this crashes FFXI)

Secondly, here is my basic windower troubleshooting guide that solves 95% of all windower problems:

-First, in the FFXI options program located in your POL start menu area, make sure FFXI's windowed mode is turned off.

-Now, run the windower GUI as administrator. The GUI is the window that pops up that let's you toggle various settings before running POL.

-For overlay, set it at the resolution you want to play at. Set this at the resolution of your monitor or below, never above.

-Turn off true fullscreen.

-If you are on 64 bit windows, make sure x64 is checked. If you are on 64 bit windows, you should run the windower gui every time you start FFXI because the x64 check never saves.

-Hide border should be unchecked.

-In the advanced options, set the background resolution to something close to your overlay resolution, but not over.

-Turn bump mapping off.

-Make sure sound is enabled.

-Hardware mouse checked.

-Show opening unchecked.

-Compress maps unchecked.

-the other options are up to you, but try keeping the max sounds down a bit.

-Name your profile and hit save. Double check and make sure x64 is check for your x64 OS. click launch.

If you are like every single other person (With the exception of one) I've ever helped with "OMG WINDOWER CRASHES" problems, you should now have windower running fine.
