character growth (spoilers sorta)

So a lot of people (myself included) start off with a hatred for some characters. For me it was hope.

At the start he just bugged the heck out of me. Whining all the time and what not. I think the poll that we held pointed that out but to be fair I think that was a little early on with to few past the point where they all grew into who they end up being.

For one lightning lightened up a little, hope grew upz snow stopped being the kid like adult and so on.

What I want to ask is if the people who disliked a character changed their mind like I did. I like the turn hope took as well as light. Hope I liked after the little chat with light about her being wrong(same thing for light I liked her a lot more after that change)

Don't think I made my post to full of spoilers but named the thread that to be safe as talk like this could be full of them

My power is still out from that crazy wind storm that hit long island as such I am still only at the start of chapter 11 (well the tower fight I back tracked to arm a little)

I didn't really like Sahz. and by chapter 11 still don't (can't wait for hope to get haste so i can cast him out of my party, since sahz's stats are mediocre at best) apart from that Hope gets better as the game progresses.

I loved fang from the start. Outside being a kick ass woman who takes not shit, she has that side of her where she does care about the others.

That's one thig I did not like about light at the start she did not give a shit.

Light remained Light, and I liked that.

Sazh was awesome from beginning to end.

Snow was probably one of my least favorite characters, although I still liked him lol.

I don't know why, but Hope reminds me of Sora from KH for some odd reason, at least later on in the story.

I didn't really like Light/Hope much, but now those seems like my favorite 2. Vanille doesn't count, she's already the most awesomeness character :D

But yeah, I definitely took a huge liking to Light/Hope much later in the game.

I think sazh is the best of them all, tho he's never in the party, but you don't think light changed? I think the caring side of her showed a lot, she went from ditching the group to holding them as a team. And I loved that switch.

Snow's my favourite i just wish his STR didn't suck compared to Fang so i could Main him, I even levelled him a little in the SAB role so he could be replace Fang. After i did that I switch her out for him did the mission with the giant Cieth got my ass handed to me several times and just switched to Fang again >.> Oh and his weapons take shit loads of exp to level which also suck since he's the only one without a * weapon atm. here's hoping he gets a little better after chapter 11 <.<

By the end of the game I liked all the characters in some way. Lightning I always liked just because she's a total badass right from the start of the game, heh.

They did a great job developing the characters this time around. They were made well and got better as the story went, a huge increase from FFX where the characters started off terrible and didn't really get any better.

Auron was dead the whole way, so he wasn't included in my statement, he was the only decent character in FFX. And Lightning's first scene made her more badass than him, lol.

I agree with most of this thread. The characters in this game really did grow a lot. I always liked Sazh and Vanille, but Snow, Light and Hope were... typical.

Hope and Light grew on me first, seeing their interactions was great and seeing Hope around chapter 7 was when I started to like him. Light was the same, from this typical Squall/Cloud wanna-be badass type to actual badass with a sense of responsibility and caring.

Fang was always awesome, Snow was the last to grow on me, by extension I don't like him as much as the rest of the cast, but not because he's terribad. I guess everyone else is a lot better.

Lighting stayed pretty bad ass throughout the game.

Sazh is God tier from the get go.

Lightning is an excellent lead. She's badass but far from emotionless and unlike many other FF leads she doesn't eclipse the other characters, in fact she takes a backseat role more than once during the game (especially for Vanille and Fang towards the end).

Snow started really as the annoying, "all talk" guy but as the game progresses he gets better and proves that he's indeed a "hero"

Vanille... at start I was thinking "what's wrong with this girl?" because of her acting, but she suddenly shows her true nature towards the middle of the game. She's a great character overall and she really never annoyed me.

Sazh is much more of serious guy than a comical relief, he is an excellent character nonetheless. The chocobo chick is adorable as well.

Hope, I don't see why the hate for him. Yes he's the little annoying whiny kid everyone expects him to be at start, but like Snow he progressively gets better.

Fang is as badass as Light and even surpasses her towards the end. Those who got that far know what I mean.

I hated Hope. I seriously did. I didn't like Vanille either, but she fared better because I knew she would have a bigger role to play, and that I just had to wait.

The game opened with everyone having major flaws, but through chapter 10, the game has done a wonderful job of having the characters first recognize their flaws, then come to grips with them, and move past them. I'll say that FFXIII has done a wonderful job of storytelling on that regard. The overall plot? Not so much, IMO, but character growth.

I actually respect and like Hope now, and that goes double for Snow, who finally stopped running from the consequences of his happy-go-lucky facade. Light is better now that she's cooled off and is actually thinking instead of simply fighting.

I'll also say that Sazh seriously has a tragic past. How many times has he suffered? Been used? Damn... I really hope he gets some sort of redemption.

I always liked Hope... although he seems to have quite a bad reception from what I've read. I like how he grew as a character, especially with the ending (wont go into detail, but if you've completed you should know what I mean)~ I also liked how he bonded with Lightning/Vanille, and eventually Snow :3 My one dislike about Hope is his age.. would of been better if he was slightly older.

I really dislike Sazh... Never used him since he wasn't mandatory lol.

Am I the only one that initally saw Hope as some past-life version of Tidus? He even looks like him, although most of that comes from SE's extreme over-use of spiky, flowing hair.

Both initially whiny, both clinging to (hot) women for support, both mentally maturing over the course of the game, both upset that their mothers died in ways that they deemed unjust, both angry at their fathers, eventually coming to respect them (Hope's dad is the man - I was pumping my fist and shouting at every thing he said, every time he said it).

I could go on and on - those two are seriously similar.
