Problem with Wine on MACOS

Ok I know I should've post this in Tech, but I know that more people look here for FFXI so just taking a chance.

Decided to come back yesterday

Bought FFXI on D2D and all

Installed Wine with macports and did a selfupdate and selfupgrade oudated

tl;dr part Everything is linked and working in the account settings.

Ok so

When I run winecfg, I put pol.exe to run in vista mode (lols)
In the Libraries Tab I have dxdiagn running as Windows Native
And in graphics I have Emulatre a virtual desktop at 800x600 (This is a test for now )

Now When I do Wine pol.exe PolLoad np

I log into my account and all is fine. And then when I click FFXI it starts loading, telling me FFXI is a MMORPG blah blah

Then click accept

Then Wine Crashes, i guess something is in my GFX config but I cannot go past there.

And I can't find any answer anywhere

Not too sure about how D2D works, but on the pol site, you need to dl the vista/7 pol client. Might need to install that version? or run your client in xp mode.

Even though it says pol the problem is not pol

Anyway installing bootcamp gonna solve the prorm

FFXI runs at POL.EXE.

It sounds like the problem has to do with the graphics mode switching when FFXI's login screen starts up. You have it set to 800x600x32bpp like the desktop?

Vista pol didn't help also yes I was running at 800x600

I can't help you with your error... but I can tell you that Parallels works great for me if you're not able to figure out your problem with Wine.

Try running it with Emulate Virtual Desktop disabled and see if that helps.

Does WINE have a log file with more info on the error?

Terminal desktop is done as writtrn in the op

What's the performance like under parallels?

I'm on an iMac 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 with 12GB Ram.

I have it running on a 2nd monitor (23" Cinema Display) with graphics turned up and it seems way less laggy than my XBox did. And that's while I have everything else I normally use open on the main monitor. I don't really have any complaints.

Ran like shit for me under Parallels4, unless they've got things down pat in whatever version they're using now.


As for FFXI under WINE, I have no fucking clue how I got it working under v1.2.2, as I cannot for the life of me get it running flawlessly under anything recent. Main problems I had under anything more recent is that it crashes whenever you alt-tab from it (even in virtual desktop), or the second there's a single bit of mouse movement. Sucks too as it runs miles smoother on the later releases and doesn't hog as much CPU which it's at it.

The CPU use thing is a big deal for me as my MacBook Pro likes to hit 90c for some reason when FFXI under WINE is going full load on a single core, even with the fans close to maxed out.
