    Controller issue

Sorry if this has been addressed somewhere else (I spent an hour looking and couldn't find anything here).

I just upgraded my PC to Windows 7, and finally got FFXI back to where I like it. Took some doing to get windower going but everything is working fine now.. Except my controller.

Long story short, the controller functions properly in POL until the FFXI acceptance of terms screen comes up. Then nothing. Anyone encounter this problem or have any suggestions?

I'm using a PS2/PS3 controller with a universal adapter thingy that can accept controllers from any major system if that helps.

    Thanks in advance for suggestions

I'm not too tech savvy, but, should you not resolve this, perhaps try using a logitech USB controller and get the drivers for it installed? They're about $20 and are pretty much exactly like the PS2 controller. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Have you tried going into FFXI config > Gamepad settings > Enable gamepad?

POL and the game have separate settings. You have to enable the controller on both.

From my experience, I would advise against this. The analog stick breaks so easy on those shitty controllers (or at least it did like 4-5 years ago when I used them) that I had to replace them very very often

While on the other hand, using a universal converter, my ps2 controller worked just fine with no issues for a good 3~5 years (how long has it been? fuck). Except that the first converter eventually died (was a shitty one), and I got another shitty one ($5 lolz) and it lasted a few years and just recently died.

Converters last a lot longer, and are cheaper, from my experience. Only issue is the lack of wireless, but eh.

I'm currently using a ps3 controller with a usb connector, because walmart doesn't carry the converter anymore :/ It's not too bad though, I have 2 PS3 controllers, I use one for my PS3, then when the battery is low I swap them, and the one that's connected to my pc gets charged at the same time <3

But, since this is a controller topic, I figure I can ask here: Any way to get the PS3 controller to work with my computer wirelessly? =x edit: nvm, google has all the answers!

Just a quick question because I had some problems yesterday after I bought my new laptop. What drivers are you using on your windows 7 for the ps2/ps3 remote? I was using my ps3 remote with the usb cable for my old laptop on vista but the driver for it doesn't work in windows 7.

You'll either have to disable the driver check every boot up, or run the commands for the test mode thing.

I made this mistake too when upgrading to Win7. I felt like such an idiot, but at least it works now.

I am also an idiot. I found the settings under Finlal Fantasy Config.. I swear to god they weren't there before!

At any rate, mia cupla, I feel stupid. But the problem has been fixed. Thanks all for the replies!

    just use keyboard >.>;;

works 50x better than a controller for macros (which is what 90% of what ffxi is anyway)

Compact settings, so WASD is movement and you dont need to use the mouse ever.

Strangely, that's not the case for me. It takes a good whole 3 seconds when pressing ctrl/alt for my macros to come up, but with the shoulder buttons on controller it is instant. Memorizing which macro is in which slot and pressing the appropriate key sequence is a different story of course, but for people like me who are terribad at anything on keyboard except typing, it's not worth the (possibly monumental) extra effort to learn and get used to. I <3 my controller.
