The video footage of VanaFest 2010, the premier FINAL FANTASY XI event held last month in Tokyo, is now available for your viewing pleasure at the official website!

From the mind-blowing announcements made during the special talk sessions to the soul-stirring live performance by the "Small Onions," and even the curiosity-piquing secret bonus stage—all this and more awaits you in nigh-unadulterated form! For those of you who were unable to attend, this is your chance to enjoy VanaFest as though you were snugly seated in the front row!

To augment the exciting experience, the community team has prepared a comprehensive wrap-up report and posted select videos and photos on the website, so be sure to check those out. There's a few interesting bits to tweeze out of the officially translated vids. The director hints they're thinking about having the Wings mission reward be an earring, although it could change.

Check about mid way into the "Secret Bonus Stage" video. They talk BS about XIV beta and skip showing the XIV trailer or whatever they showed before it for people in the audience. Then after they are done they show Uemetsu's entrance in black and white/slow mo thing.


The two shmoes on the Community team need to go back to school and learn how to put a non stab your head with a butcher knife inducing video. I know it was supposed to be a recap but come on. If you are going to banter, then make it interesting banter. If the object of the video was to inform, then script what you say, and do a truly informative video rather than just simply speaking of stuff in front of plasma with the Vanafest site behind you.

I was really hopeful we would see some clarification on stuff that was left off the website. ie other job changes, and things that were discussed but not twitter-translated while watching the live broadcast. Just a really poor job in general, they may as well just done nothing if we gotta go through the translated videos to find any real information.

Only now getting around to watching more of this. There's some significant info that never seems to have come through in the ad-hoc translation during the event.

Apparently the meaty BST update is still to come, and they're thinking about adding Subtle Blow, more callable pets, more charmable mobs, an ability to control enmity, unique TP attacks normal monsters don't have, and the growth feature similar to DRG Wyverns.

Also somehow this got totally glossed over, but the developer mentions they are still going to add new avatars in the future. (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)

For Monk they're thinking about abilities that depend on timing, and something that impedes an enemies movement.

That was all I've seen so far in the developer panel part1.

Edit: A couple things from part 2.
They did not say that there would be a jug to use the Krabkatoa model. One of the announcers made a joke and they played along.

During the Bonanza portion it's mentioned they might add 100 Dynamis currency and Alexandrites to the rank 2 and 3 prizes.

For Scholar, they're considering a spell that would gauge the entire parties enmity status (they should name it Kaeko-ga).

Since opportunities to fight HNM types of mobs have increased they might allow Blue Mages to learn spells from those kinds of enemies (Assault, MMM, Nyzul, etc.).

For Corsair it's mentioned they'd like an ability that allows you to gamble and increase the amount of damage from DoT.

That seems to be all from the dev panel.

F'in hell, it says in the special talk session 1 that people subbing ninja won't get Yonin/Innin. I think I just went a rubbery one.
