16:10 on a 16:9 monitor.

I've recently bought my friends 1080p 16:9 monitor for a really low price and i have a few worries. Can FFXIV and other PC games, like first person shooters run fine on a 16:9 1080p monitor without any loss, or can those games run at that resolution at all? Second question, can my monitor display the resolution of 1050p 16:10? I see that 1050p is the optimal resolution that any PC gamer uses. I'll be using a HD 5770 GPU when i purchase it. I'm just worried that my monitor will be completely useless for use with my future PC that is in the works of being built. Is my only option to just buy a new 16:10 monitor?

Almost any game that's within the last few years will give you the option for 1920x1080. I'm sure there's exceptions but they're probably fairly minimal.

If by 1050p you mean 1680x1050 then that will also be supported by pretty much anything. The next common 16:10 step up from that is 1920x1200.

You should be fine, I would not worry about it. I doubt you could tell the difference anyways.

yes i got the same screen . works fine for shooters also.
i play ffxi on 1920x1050 so i got a bit space on the bottom for my task bar .
