    Loot Whoring Games

After playing FFXI for 6 years I've become addicted to games that have hundreds of weapons/armor and have incredibly low drop rates...honestly. What are games for PS3 or PC (not MMO) that have this style of gameplay/replay value. I own Borderlands and Oblivion which are both perfect examples. What are some other great games with lots and lots of items?

Haven't played either but it sounds like Monster Hunter and White Knight Chronicles would both fit what you're after.

Well if you feel Oblivion is a perfect example, perhaps you would enjoy Fallout 3?

Yeah, Fallout 3 and Monster Hunter are good choices. Not really a loot whoring game (but there is a ton of different weapons you can collect and synth) but Demon's Souls kind of fits the bill.

Seconded! PSO is a lot of fun, and you can play for free on a popular private server.

I would second or third the Monster Hunter suggestion. The entire game revolves around farming and resource gathering and killing monsters over and over for low drop rate items to craft new armor/weapons.

    And it is really fun.

Borderlands has a ton of loot too, although not a lot of it is rare.

Fourthing PSO. If you're after lootwhoring, then that's one of the kings of lootwhoring. Hell, you even have to pick up your damn money (which is in a lot of actual MMO's, but meh).

Definitely an interesting looking game if you're into farm sims.

Can't believe I forgot about PSO. Have it for the GCN. Is Blue Blaze the way to go with that game? Also, for Monster Hunter... I don't have a PSP. Is the new Wii version my only option?

Blue Blaze looks cleaner graphic-wise (models, spells, etc) to me and some changes were done, most I am not aware of what exactly (I use to play DC version). Weither it is because of the private server or not, I do notice you don't drop your money when you die or your weapon. The Mines boss, the virus/robot, seems slightly different where you destroy everything in the first form to continue. Dark Falz's last form has invincibility modes now as well (not sure if Megrid can kill you this time)

There are other episodes with new areas and bosses that were new to me compared to DC one. I really loved the giant bird boss because the boss stage is incredibly gorgeous looking and worth the lonnnnnng time it takes to reach it.

IIRC there is a monster hunter game on the ps2, psp, and Wii right now (in the US) I think it is also on the PC and it will be coming to the xbox360 eventually.

grinding? shitty drop rates? marginal upgrades?

Sounds like a ripe candidate to play some Disgaea.
