    Legal question

and I don't make threads in General. I am curious as to what would happen in the following situation and google isn't enough to satisfy my lazy efforts.

Can parents get in trouble if their child is caught harboring underage drinking(or pot or etc, if makes a difference) if they are completely oblivious to? What about partially oblivious to it(know there is a party, but alcohol and etc is hidden from them)? What if a minor got into a drunk driving incident after leaving such a party? I remember reading somewhere they are somewhat responsible for anything that happens in their house concerning minors. I believe they could be sued by other parents at least?

I think in NJ, the first scenarios listed the parents are liable regardless if they are present or oblivious. I am not sure about the drunk driving implications, but I would guess they would also be held responsible.

why does it even matter, it's illegal to drink underage so the scenario would never even happen

I'm fairly sure there is precedent for this being child abuse/endangerment by some interpretations.

If it happens in your house you're liable regardless if you were present or not. If some kid got drunk in your house, left, and got into an accident, the parents of that child can sue you. It's happened around here before.

    Liable.

Well being oblivious may result in dismissal or lesser penalties, any law that is broken, is broken regardless of if the perpetrators were aware of it or not, and is thus pursueable.

    ^

If we're talking most US states, parents would definitely be liable.

Even if it wasnt in your own home, I think your kids just being degenerates can get you into trouble.

For the record, it is legal for a minor to drink under supervised circumstances, provided they stay on private property and are under complete parental/guardian supervision.

Wait, so in my religion, everyone under the age of 21 is required to get smashed.

    That makes it legal?
