Downloading FFXI legally?

I used search to see if i could find a similar thread, but no luck. So put your pitchforks and dildos away... for now.

I was getting excited (lol) about coming back to FFXI after what seems like a year, so I dug out all 118 CDs to re-install, but after six years they have perished (or at least disk one has). It's stuck at \mov\music999.bgw, so meh.

I was tempted to re-buy the whole set from steam for like 30 dorra(?) which is awesomely cheap, but i decided against it since the download would take untill FF14 was released, lol...

Is there such a way to download it legally without paying for it? Since you need a registration key to play the game, I would have thought SE would allow you to download FF as long as you have bought a copy in the past.

Try signing up for a trial account, they should provide you with the game client. Note that I've never tried, but it seems logical for this should happen.

If you have your old registration key then I wouldn't really worry about downloading it legally. Even more, I'm not sure if I remember correctly but as long as you have all your POL ID pass etc. then you can just reenter that info in POL w/o the keys - I might be mistaken though.

Just search for FFXI collection on torrents or something? I even think there was a link to a copy on BG somewhere.

The trial client is either a streaming one or just a very limited ver. I believe. No way you're getting the basic and all the expansions to play a trial.

My ToAU and WOTG will work, it's just Zilart, CoP and FFXI that i would have problems with.

Would downloading the trial work? would suck if it locked up or something.

Torrent it up with Microsoft Security Essentials and avast! watching for viruses, you'll be fine. Who the hell would be bothered to trojan a FFXI torrent anyways...

FFXI is on steam for like $10-15, just buy it on there and have it forever. Plus you'll get an extra key that has everything up to the last add on expansion.

I know dis~ but steam has jewed me over a few times on games that would have EU and NA versions of the game... Aion was the best one, 10 hour download and it didn't even work. Plus im cheap.

edit: I'm looking at a torrent, what does ISO mean?

Edit #2: FFXI ISO = 1.31 GB? I'm guessing that would be w/o the expantions with a file that small (Which is what i want, since i have the expansions in good condition)

an ISO is a disc in file form. An image of the DVD.

If you can find a copy of the trial edition that some game stores were selling a few years back, it included installation media for the base game and Zilart, CoP, and ToAU. If you can find a store that still sells it, it should be under 5 bucks. I've found it very handy to replace all those old CDs.
