Overclocking an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T

Got my Processor and board two days ago, decided to OC it to 4 Ghz, first time overclocking an AMD (and fairly new at overclocking in general)

HT link / NB speed...don't know what these are or do, if i'm going to just OC the CPU and not the RAM, do I have to touch any of this? or leaving it on auto/stock is fine?

And... looking through the AMD site, I see the max temp listed as 62º, I've reached 64-65 while doing a Prime95 run, should I be worried? I know I wont get anywhere near these in day to day use, FF14 Benchmark peaked at 44, running most of it at 42-43 :>

System is fully stable so far at 4ghz, 1.4 vCore (1.416 CPU-Z)

HT loading only really affects load speeds IIRC. Anything over 60c while running the Prime torture test generally makes me concerned - I assume you're using an aftermarket cooler? I highly recommend you do if you plan on overclocking AMD since they're notorious for having really shitty stock fans for their CPUs.

Also, how long did you run Prime for?

    I have a Noctua NH-U12P SE. Ran Prime95 for 1 hour.

I have been beta testing FFXIV for several hours, temp tops at 46-47 with 28º ambient, fully stable, I've yet to reach 50º with anything but a torture/stress test. Still concerned about the 65º I got yesterday on prime but dunno if I should put much thought into it as I'll rarely will put all six cores to 100% load for long periods of time.

I'm guessing its a 1090t black edition, can't you just bump up the multiplier and the vcore?

and yes 100% load is completely unrealistic unless you are using a synthetic stress program. Its good for stability testing, but not for a idea of where your temps will be.

Yes, that's too high for an AMD chip.

Oh well, time to look for a new cooler then.

I'll probably end up getting a Corsair H50 with 2 fans, current cooler is blocking 2 RAM slots.

The H50 seems to give good performance for it's price and I wont have any problem since its pretty small.

Theres a comparison with the one I currently have (NH-U12P 2 fans) and the H50.

Guess I'll get it 5-7º cooler, which should put me under 60º.

I'm a bit surprised that you hit over 60C using that cooler.. Seems like something's off there, like maybe too much thermal compound.

You said you have dual fans on the heatsink.. I'm assuming standard push/pull configuration?

Yes, I have a push/pull setup, I though the same thing when I saw the temps, but I did reseat the HFS 3 times, using more and less compound each time. No difference :/
