    Please Rate/Look Over Rig

Saving up the last bit to go all out and buy this rig but before I do I would like some feedback from the community. This will primarily be used for FFXIV and the other standard college student stuff. It will be my first PC build attempt and I want to do it right.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully leave some feedback.

Get a Logitech G500 if you can, the MX518 is a very refined mouse but the G5(00) is the second coming of Jesus.

    Rest looks fine.

Ohhhh that thing does look sexy. I'll make my final decision come purchase time. Maybe it will drop price in a month or so.

    Looks solid.

Probably will want to pick up an at least a CM Hyper 212 (and some thermal paste), the stock HSF on the BE chips get uncomfortably loud. It would also leave the option to OC in the future if you choose to.

The WD Black drives might be worth a look as well.

Could also look into a modular PSU to make your building experience a little easier. Antec TPN, Corsair HX, XFX Black, and Seasonic X are the ones you want to look at.

Thank you for those tips. Would the CM Hyper be able to be changed in at a later date? I am pretty much hitting my preferred budget currently and want to leave a little breathing room. Noise doesn't tend to bother me and I have no intention of OC'ing just yet. Basically should the stock be sufficient for it now?

EDIT: Between these two, which would you suggest? If there is no huge difference I would rather save a few bucks and go with the XFX

Yes, you will be able change it in at a later date. I did the same with a 955. The 3k-4k RPMs while gaming was bothering me so I swapped in a CM V8. Just a heads up from my experience, that's all. Dropping to a 955 should allow you just about break even if that helps. If you're on the fence though, then to wait and see is a good plan.

If you can stand the color scheme of the XFX, then that.

Alright thanks a lot, extremely helpful. I went and changed the PSU to the XFX and my HD to a 500GB WD for $5 less lol... I have a 600GB WD external which has been awesome so it only makes sense to go with what I have used and know works well.

I agree... the XFX chose a weird color scheme, red would have been nice for me since it is my favorite color, but it's in the back and quite frankly... I will forget about it once I am staring at my screen foaming at the mouth lol.

I'll just wait for the paycheck after I build my rig and pick up a different cooler then. Again, I appreciate your help a lot, thank you!

Unless you can make the price jump to a 1TB WD Black, I would just stick with the Samsung 1TB. IMO, it ain't worth the loss of ~500GB.

hmmmm another $20 eh, kind of nominal in a $1400 build, suppose I could pull that off. Probably be a "game time" decision though I need to contemplate if I really need that much more Hard Drive space, barely using half of my external as it is.

Semi-related question, but why do people not recommend Samsung F3s at all when they are cheap and fast drives? Is it just that WDs are more reliable/trusted?

Is it worth it to you to spend the extra $110 on a 5870 over a 5850?

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=...ess-Video-Card $284.99 with free shipping after code SUNSHINE15

If it's worth the rather hefty price jump to get a 5870 to you (or your budget is really just nonexistant) then nevermind, but just thought I'd throw it out there if you were interested in saving a few.

    Edit: Just re-read the bit about "going all out" so I guess disregard this D;

Yeah there's that too. You could save another $120 by getting a Storm Scout Mid Tower and XFX 650w modular PSU... Swapping the case, PSU, and GPU out will save you $230, without losing much performance -at all-. And if you still were dead-set on spending that amount of money, you could just crossfire another 5850.

In general, I'd say yes, WD is more reliable, trusted, and performs better. idk about that particular samsung though.
I'm still using old, functioning IDE 80gb WD drives that are like 7 years old

I'm going to push the HAF 922 again. For only having 2 drives and 1 GPU it is plenty of space and has good cable management. It's essentially the little brother of the case you have there. Save yourself a good bit also.

I would swap the 5870 for a 5850 and go with a Phenom II x6 1090T. You would more likely replace your GPU before your CPU.

Really? I'm not that savvy with PC's still, will it show greater potential even if I don't OC it? 3.2GHz v. 3.4GHz seems substantial since people will push to OC even just for an extra .2.

From what I've read in the benchmark thread for 14. http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94743 Is that if you're going to play on the higher graphics settings a better graphics card is much more important than cpu. But if you're playing medium or lower end than the cpu is more important than the graphics card. I upgraded my cpu over the summer to an i7 930 and I still have an 4870. I think I'm going to stick with how it is now until the next generation of cards comes out, and then pop for a 5970 when the price drops. That's even if I play 14. I'm playing the beta at 1680x1050 and it's a bit laggy when there are a ton of people around but I can live with it.
