Upgrading pre-built comp, tips?

So, I purchased my computer 2-3 years ago from Dell. I don't have the money for a new comp, but I would like to start swapping out pieces if possible... as I'm sure by now pretty much everything in my PC is obsolete or at least behind the standard.

I don't really remember any of the specs. Intel Duo Core, maybe 2.6? 300GB HD, 2GB ram? I want to say I went with the improved video card above standard, but I don't remember.

I know the cases are cramped and a pain in the ass, but is it possible to make some small changes and give my system a bit of a boost, in lieu of a new comp?

Also, never built my own computer. I helped build my previous one, but that was probably 7 years ago. Although I'm fairly positive I can handle swapping out parts on my own.

You can definitely upgrade, but naturally you're limited to what's capable on a 775 platform which will max out with some variant of C2 Quad and add a couple more gigs of DDR2. We'd need to look through your system manual to find out how much upgrading you can do though.

I think this is a bad idea because your going to be limited by what parts you can put in from both the motherboard and the PSU. Probably would be better off in the long haul if you just get the parts and start building your own.

Though if I were you I'd start posting more specs for the more informed people to make a better assessment.

Waste of money compared to just saving for a new one. Dunno if they've changed recently, but last I knew, Dell uses proprietary PSU/mobos.
