Unable to detect DirectX Device Error

During B phase 3 I would get this error fairly often, maybe once an hour or two. I updated to the latest version of DirectX from Microsoft and I also updated my video card drivers to their latest version to try to fix the problem. I was only in phase 3 a couple days due to being included in the final round of invites so I wasn't able to really try too much else other than that and simply hoped that there was a problem on SE's end that would be fixed come OB.

Well OB is here and I'm still getting hit by this thing. It is an extremely annoying seemingly random occurrence. I could be afk for 10 minutes, try to move and have the error or I could be in the middle of a leve and fighting and get hit by it equally.

If it helps, I'm running an ATI HD4870 Driver Version 8.762-100803a-103691C-ATI and DirectX version 9.29.1962. Of course, I can provide more info if required.

Anyone else getting this problem or can offer a solution?

Get the same thing randomly when I afk, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it does.

Don't press the Windows key. Either that or some other program is stealing focus from FFXIV while its fullscreen. SE can't seem to figure out how to gracefully switch between fullscreen and windowed mode.

That's strange because I run in windowed mode and when I play only FFXIV is open. Unless it's my anti-virus, but after a crash there isn't anything on screen, just my background. I'm also using a gamepad so it isn't the windows key either.

download the latest drivers and directX :

And ur graphic card driver from (here) ,,

There are some problems with ATI drivers it seems, AMD is releasing a new driver update probably by next week or so.. till then SE should patch it up a little.
