When running around Eorzea trying to gather as many materials as possible you may start to wonder: Where do I obtain this, where do I obtain that and what is the most effective method.
So far there are many unknown factors to gathering. Whether you are fishing, mining or logging we still don’t know much about how weather, moon phases, location and other factors influence the items obtained through these activities.
Many people are using spreadsheets, pen and paper or other methods to log all this information in order to try to deduce in which ways the different conditions may or may not affect the results of gathering. As this task is pretty much impossible to do single handed I have created a tool for all who are interested.
The tool is called the DoL Log and can be found at
www.disciplesoftheland.com. This is basically a log that people can use to enter all this information. The initial thought was to try and deduce what depth of fishing was for. Is there a difference between fishing the shallow waters and the depths? After contemplating the idea of logging this information it was obvious that there was a lot of other information that could be relevant.
So the DoL Log was built and many people saw it as a great way to not only document their own findings but through a collective effort get access to much more information that could ever be accomplished alone. So far more than 2300 rows have been added to the log and this is in five days only. The information is not yet used for anything yet as we need to filter them to get a clearer picture of what is relevant and what is unnecessary information. This is coming very soon though.
The end result will be information on:
- Where items can be obtained.
- What tools (and bait) is most effective
- What moonphase is the best time for gathering (if any)
- What weather is best for gathering (if any)
- What items will give most skill points at a certain level
We hope that the information gathered will give even more answers to questions we all have at the moment but aren’t able to answer. If you want to help with the project please do. As mentioned we need as much information as possible if we want to make any conclusions and any help is appreciated. If you want you can also export all your logs to a file and make your own conclusions and use the data however you want.
