Youtube videos loading extremely slow or not at all.

I can't take it anymore, my phone works faster loading videos than my browser does.

I'm using the latest chrome and flash, not sure what to do.

Even on the lowest quality, the videos are barely loading at all, and full screening is even slower. I don't know what to do at this point, its extremely frustrating. Is it because I have other tabs open? This is on a gaming computer using fios which I have pretty good down/up with.

Not sure if it matters but I just closed all of my tabs before doing that.

Are you using opendns or google dns? If not that would be my first suggestion.

Also, are you using the Fios router or do you have your own router? If your fios connection is set up to use ethernet as opposed to coax you can try plugging the ethernet cable directly to your computer (make sure release the IP address lease before and after).

Fios router. Coax into router then ethernet cable to my computer. I'll check into google dns.

Just tried the computer down the hall which is also hardwired, a worse computer, and it loads the videos much faster.

Must be something I did when "optimizing" windows7 or my ssd.

Next time I reformat we'll know for sure, pretty lame though.

Brilliant. I've NEVER been able to play Youtube in 1080p. It would always stop entirely forcing me to reload the page. This fixed that.

edit: Kill off hardware acceleration if you haven't. It's a shit feature that for me was enabled by default when I installed everything fresh. I ran into a ton of problems before turning it off.

got a new router today from Verizon, but they found out I'm getting more down/up than I'm paying for. Hope I get to keep it. Anyway, only got to load one video before class and it was instant. Hopefully the wifi signal is stronger too for the other computers now.

Verizon FIOS generally gives you more up/down than advertised, at least that's the case for me.

Apparently it was my router. My laptop downstairs is getting 20down, my apple TV is streaming flawlessly and I may have no need for my raspberry pi now. And, as mentioned, youtube is perfect even at 720p.

Thanks Buffy! I've always had Youtube slow as crap to get started/skipping since oh, about a year ago. The diff is amazing. I'm telling my brother and bookmarking that page for when I do the rebuild. ^^

Also for who said wireless sucks; Wireless don't have to suck. It all depends on your router and what's in the way, actually; some wireless routers DO suck. Sadly it's trial and error to find one that doesn't...I've been on wireless for a very long time now (I had a dad who was crippled and walked with crutches, so we didn't wanna string wires around) and had very few problems.

Oh and make sure if you're actually using it, have the security on or you might have some people stealing your net; we found that out the hard way.
