A new interview has appeared between Japanese publication Denfaminicogamer and Dragon Quest creator, Yuji Horii, and has been translated into English by Noisy Pixel. Mr. Horii pulls no punches when he says that the upcoming Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate will take some time to be released and points towards the fact that the long-awaited game is targeting an older audience than they have previously, presumably to boost the franchises fortunes here in the west where it lags behind the core Final Fantasy series of games.

There was a Dragon Quest live stream 2 days ago, during which Yuji Horii said that, gosh, they're sure "working very hard" on DQ12 still.

I cannot reveal the details yet, but we want to create a game that is worthy of the final contributions of the two people who passed away. I’m doing my best!

Game had its development restarted. Has a new logo and subtitle (Beyond Dreams). They showed a short teaser and no more concrete info, so prepare to wait a couple of more years again, lol



The 40th anniversary stream was pretty disappointing in terms of announcement. They did reveal a new Monsters game will be coming soon and seem to be a spinoff of DQ5
