Odd civil rights question

I will try to make this quick. I have seen a lot of law realted questions get real answers so I figured I sould give it a shot.

I work at a private school. I have just started working here. The school does get state funding for a few things. My wife was told by HR that she isnt allowed to breastfeed on campus and asked not to breastfeed in our car near the school (where people could see her while dropping kids off). The school ranges in ages from pre-K to 12th grade. From what I have seen, this is against the law, but I could be missing something as I am not up to date on everything law related.

Now come the twist. My wife found out that other people have had problems with the school and the attorney general has been notified. My wife things I should go to the Headmaster as the school has a policy that protects against whistleblowing. I am worried about losing my job if they think I am causeing problems. Opinions?

Lots of pro-breastfeeding groups will stage a breastfeeding sit-in against places like this. You could just find one, inform them about the prohibition, and let the media take over.

then don't even think about bringing it up. it's a sucky situation to be in, but reality is schools will get rid of teachers who don't have tenure who give issues, because they think in the long run once you do have it, you'll cause more problems.


And this is really such a minor thing, it's not worth fighting for. Just like your students, you need to pick your battles. ^_~

Minor, but still stupid that she's not allowed - society has degenerated so far that women aren't allowed to discreetly feed their babies the way nature intended, which is why they have breasts in the first place...

There's also laws to make sure you pick up your dog's shit after he's done taking a crap in a park. It isn't natural, it doesn't have to be. It's better this way.

And lol at it being a result of degenerating women. If anything, the prevailing societal expectation of women to be nothing more than baby factories would reinforce a state that says, "let women breastfeed wherever they need to - they have only a handful of jobs to do, we may as well let the bitches do them."

Don't many women just take the baby into the bathroom stall and breast feed in there? Couldn't your wife just do that? Or couldn't she just feed the baby at home before she comes to see you for your lunch break? Personally don't think this is an issue you should bring up when there are several work around that are not really an incontinence anyways.

does the school have a doctor/nurse? they probably could provide a more comfortable space than a bathroom stall (especially if they are designed for kids)

That's true, I find it hard to believe a school with grades pre-k-12th doesn't have a nurses office. And I'd find it hard to believe the nurses office doesn't have a small private section she can breastfeed in.
