    World of Warcraft on a USB Dongle/3G Connection - Quality/How is it?/Bandwidth

Just wanted to get some opinions off someone. I'm moving around a few places with no perma-line so I was wondering what lag/latency is like using a dongle, in a city centre (so assume perfect connection/coverage). This is only temporary 1 month.

When I played FFXI I also played on dongle which was fine most of the time. But as WoW is a bit more activity intensive, I was wondering what it will be like.

Assume I won't be raiding unless comfortable, and no vent. All other internet usage will be kept minimal (so forum browsing with images turned off) and no youtube/streaming music, etc etc.

I haven't thought of measuring bandwidth usage yet so will actually try tonight. One unconfirmed cached page told me 80mb for the night raiding, 30mb WoW, 50mb Vent.

I understand and accept lag spikes are always going to happen and am willing to take risks, but for low level/alt levelling or just levelling a profession up to take up some time until I get a line sorted out

You're going to balance from 80 to 300 ms ping, it should be playable for low level/alt levelling very easily but doubt you could raid with that.
Bandwidth shouldn't be an issue, count 10kb/s for WoW.

It will work perfectly fine, yes. Depending on how strong your 3G connection is, you should be able to play with no lag at all. Like sruon said though, I don't think you'd want to raid or do anything with a bunch of people.

I always recommend using a USB tether from a smart phone though. It's more cost effective.

Ratatapa: Sorry I've not tried so I cannot answer.

    Otherwise, Thanks guys.

80-300ms ping is fine I get that at home anyway and has no noticable effect on my performance 95% of the time!
I usually average 150-250 but I think that thing is inaccurate as it only seems to perodically check, and it's not "real time".

If it works anything like Android, it will use the WiFi. I have my phone tethered to my PC right now, connected to my wireless network.

My IP address is that of my ISP for my wireless internet, thus, it's using the Wifi.

With WiFi disabled on my phone, it uses T-Mobile's IP address.

    Hope this helps.

Did this all last summer. Never had a problem on 3G. I was able to do 5-mans and PVP battlegrounds with no problem.

(AT&T Unlimited Data Plan). WoW never even dent the bandwidth. I was using my iPhone 3GS with MyWi for the tether (Wi-Fi & USB both worked flawlessly).
